“Surviving summers and winters under such perforated roofs are still manageable, but monsoons under these leaky roofs are hardest to survive. Even cooking is difficult with wet fuel wood tearing up our eyes and water dripping through various corners. Our hutments are built on the banks of a river, so there is a constant fear of the river flooding and sweeping our homes. What if we have to run with our meager belongings? Well, anyways, we are used to escaping with our belongings most of the time.”
Described above is the plight of the nomadic families living in Gondal who live under the constant threat of being swept away by bulldozers or rain waters. Yet, clinging to their hope of moving into a place of their own kept them going!
The families received plots after the appeal for allotment of plots to the Government. Subsequently, VSSM commenced the construction of houses for 86 of those families and anticipates completion of the structures in the next couple of months to bring into being Sanjivani Society – 2 .
The construction of Sanjivani Society 1 was majorly funded by First Abu-Dhabi bank. Numerous of our well-wishers also contributed to the construction with respected Krishnakant Mehta uncle and Indira Mehta auntie supporting the construction of 26 homes.
It costs Rs. 3.25 lacs to 3.55 lacs to construct one house; we request the Government to consider the rising cost of raw materials and construction and increase the housing aid from Rs. 1.20 to Rs. 3.50 lacs.
The collective support will help accomplish the construction of these homes and give a permanent address and relief to the families who have endured the vagaries of nature for generations.
The local administration has played an important role here. I would like to remember Shri Rajesh Aal, who laid the foundation of these efforts.
The District Collector of Rajkot is a wonderful human being and an equally good administrator, may more districts have officers like him.
I would also like to remember the Sarpanch of Gundala; may we have more panchayat leaders like him.
We hope our Chief Minister can perform the housewarming ceremony for this settlement also,
Well, one thing we know for sure is Rameshbhai Vansfoda and 86 families will not be spending this monsoon under the leaky roof.
May more homeless families continue to find permanent homes and addresses. This is also a dream of our respected Prime Minister, Shri Narendrabhai Modi.
VSSM’s Rajkot team members Chayaben and Kanubhai have played an essential role in this and many such accomplishments. It is tough to get things done at such multiple levels, and the duo has remained perseverant.
In a nutshell, the collective efforts of Government, civil society, and community have brought such excellent outcomes..
ઉનાળો, શિયાળો તો નિહરી જાય. પણ ચોમાસુ આ છાપરાં કાઢવું બહુ અઘરુ પડે. વરસાદમાં હુકા લાકડાંય ન મળે તે એેને બાળી હકીયે. પણ જેમ તેમ કરીને એને હળગાવવા મથીયે. ધુમાડાના ગોટે ગોટા આખા છાપરાંમાં થાય. આંખો રાતી ચોળ થઈ જાય. પાસુ મીણિયું હરખુ નાઈખુ હોય તો ઠીક નકર એમાંથીયે પાણી ટપકે. નદીના પટ પાહેણ રહીએ તો બીકેય સતત લાગે કે ક્યાંક પાણી વધશે ને છાપરાંમાં ધુસી જાશે તો? અમારે નાહવું પડશે.. આમ તો દર ચોમાસે નાહવાનું જ હોય બેન...
ગોંડલમાં રહેતા વિચરતી વિમુક્ત જાતિના પરિવારોની આ વ્યથા. મૂળ એમની પોતાની જગ્યા નહીં એટલે છાપરાં પર ક્યારેક બુલડોઝર ફરી વળે તો ક્યારેક વરસાદી પાણી..
પોતાની જગ્યા થાય તો સરસ ઘર બંધાય ને આ પીડામાંથી મુક્તિ મળેની એમને ઘણી આશા.
સરકાર પાસે રજૂઆત કરીને એમને પ્લોટ મળ્યા. જેમને પ્લોટ મળ્યા તેમાંથી 86 પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવાનું અમે શરૃ કર્યું. લગભગ બે મહિનામાં કામ પુર્ણ થઈ જશે. પણ મજાની સંજીવની સોસાયટી - 2 બની.
ફસ્ટ આબુ ધાબી બેંકનો સહયોગ મુખ્ય રહ્યો એ સિવાય ઘણા સ્વજનોએ મદદ કરી. આદરણીય ક્રિષ્ણકાંત મહેતા અને ઈન્દિરા મહેતા 26 ઘરોના બાંધકામ માટે પૂર્ણ સહયોગ કર્યો.
એક ઘર 3.25 થી લઈને 3.55 લાખમાં બાંધ્યું. સરકાર મકાન સહાયની રકમ 1.20 લાખથી વધારી 3.50 લાખ કરે તે આજની મોંધવારીને જોતા જરૃરી લાગે અને એ માટે સરકારને વિનંતી.
ટૂંકમાં સૌના સહયોગથી આ ઘરો બંધાશે. ને સદીઓથી જેઓ સંતાપો વેઠે છે એમને હવે આરામ મળશે.
વહીવટીતંત્રની મદદ ઘણી. રાજેશ આલને પ્રથમ યાદ કરીશ. એમણે પાયો નાંખ્યો.
રાજકોટ જિલ્લા કલેક્ટર શ્રી એકદમ ઉમદા વ્યક્તિ એમના જેવી વ્યક્તિ દરેક જિલ્લામાં ઈચ્છનીય..ગુંદાળાના સરપંચને ખાસ યાદ કરીશ. તેમના જેવા સરપંચ પણ દરેક ગામમાં ઈચ્છીયે.
મુખ્યમંત્રી આ વસાહતનું ઉદધાટન કરે એમ ઈચ્છીએ. બસ બે મહિના પછી એ પણ કરીશું.
બાકી રમેશભાઈ વાંસફોડા ને એમના જેવા 86 પરિવારોને આ વર્ષનું ચોમાસુ છાપરાંમાં નહીં કાઢવું પડે એની ખાત્રી..
બસ ઘરવિહોણા, સરનામાં વગરના વધુ લોકો ઘરવાળા થાય પોતાના સરનામાંવાળા થાય એમ ઈચ્છીએ.. આદરણીય વડાપ્રધાન શ્રી નરેન્દ્રભાઈ મોદીનું પણ આ સ્વપ્ન.
રાજકોટ જિલ્લામાં કાર્યરત અમારા કાર્યકર છાયાબહેન અને કનુભાઈની ભૂમિકા આમાં ઘણી મહત્વની.. લોકો સાથે કામ લેવું દાદ માંગે એવું. બંને કાર્યકર એ બરાબર કરે.ટૂંકમાં સમાજ, સરકાર અને જેમના ઘર બંધાઈ રહ્યા છે તે બધાની સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી સરસ કામ થઈ રહ્યું છે.
