‘This flood fulfilled my desire.

I am saying this wholeheartedly. Otherwise It would have been mountain of debt on me. 7000 I took for my mother’s post cremation rituals (last rites ceremony). From that when it turned to Rs. 70,000, I didn’t even realise. To get free from debt I decided to put myself on mortgage.  But there was grief because I didn’t want to leave my village.

A night before floods, I was sitting in front of Mataji (goddess) and I had tears in my eyes that time. I said by praying that “Ma, I don’t want to leave my village.” I had lost hopes. I had to leave next morning and everything was packed. And Ben, on the next day, flood came. Roof and our all household things were washed away.

We had to live in a school, and mentally I had lost myself. But that time you and Naranbhai came. You took care of us, and my situation changed to better. Dear Ma (Dear goddess) listened to my request.

You made us free from debt and see now pakka house we could build too.

This ‘Govo’ is now turned into ‘Govind’, Ben!

I want to do Mataji’s chanting and you will also have to come Ben. After you come then only I am going to start living in that house."

‘Govind, don’t waste your money by doing this ritual’ when I said this to Govind, he agreed to that. Don’t see this as criticism but as faith Govind and many more people like him have.  And I strongly believe that human being's hard work and faith ultimately help in survival.
In Totana, apart from Govind Bajaniya, there are many more houses being built by VSSM with the help of our well-wishers.  We thank you all our dear ones who helped us in this task…

‘આ પુર મન ફળ્યું.

લો હાવ હાચુ કઉ સુ. માથે દેવાનો ડુંગર થઈ જ્યોત ક નઈ. હાત હજાર મારી માના કારજ હાતર વ્યાજવા લીધાતા તે હાતના હીતેર હજાર(70,000) ચાણ થઈ જ્યા કોય ખબર ના પડી. દેવું ઉતારવા મારી જાતન થરાદ પાહેણના ગોમડાંમોં ગીરો મુચવાનું નક્કી કીધુ. પણ બહુ દુખ થતુ તુ માર ગોમ સોડવું નતુ.

પુર આયુન ઈની આગલી રાતના મારી મા(માતાજી) પાહેણ બેઠો ઓહુંડા પડી જ્યાતા બેન. મા માર ગોમ નઈ સોડવુ એવી પ્રાર્થના મે કીધી. મુ હારી જ્યો તો. હવારે નેકળવાનું હતું લબાચો તૈયાર હતો. અન બેન બીજા દાડ પુર આઈ જ્યું. સાપરુ ન બધોય સોમોન તણઈ જ્યો. 

નેહાણમાં રેવાનું થ્યું. મનથી હાવ ભોજી જ્યો તો. પણ એ વખતે જ તમે અન નારણભઈ આયા. અમારી હંભાળ લીધી. ન મારી દશા બદલઈ જઈ. મારી માએ મારી વિનતી હોભળી.

દેવું તમે ઉતાર્યું ન જુઓ પાકા ઘરવાળોય થ્યો.

આ ગોવો હવ ગોવિંદ થઈ જ્યો બેન.. 

માતાની રમેણ કરવી હ અન તમાર આબ્બાનું હ્. તમે આવસો પસી જ મુ ઘરમો રેવા જવાનો.’

આ વાત રમેણ કરીને ખોટો ખર્ચ ના કર ગોવિંદ એવું જ્યારે ગોવિંદને કહ્યું ત્યારે એણે કરી. આ વાતને ટીકાના સ્વરૃપમાં ના જોતા ગોવિંદ અને એના જેવા કેટલાય લોકોની શ્રધ્ધા સાથે જોશો. અને હું દૃઢ પણે માનું છુ કે માણસની મહેનત અને સાથે તેની શ્રધ્ધા જ તેને જીવાડે છે.

ટોટાણામાં ગોવિંદ #બજાણિયા સિવાય પણ ઘણા પરિવારોના ઘરો સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા શુભેચ્છકોની મદદથી બની રહ્યા છે. મદદ કરનાર સૌ પ્રિયજનોનો આભાર..

due to inadequate help

The government under Pandit Dindayal aavas yojana gives help of Rs. 70,000 to build house.  Mostly Nomadic, De-notified and socially backward class take benefit of this scheme, whose situation is really worst. While in Pradhanmantri aavas yojana beneficiaries get help of Rs. 1,20,000.  But benefits of this scheme is available to only those people who are either part of BPL list or whose social status is backward in the economic survey done by government in 2011.  But most of this tribes who are living far away from village, were not included in the survey list. Because of that people who have been allotted plots but haven’t received a help from this Pradhanmantri aavas yojana.

Aavas yojana is meant for providing houses to those who are not having own house. Then why such a partiality is there?

In Pandit Dindayal yojana so many representations are being made to increase the amount of help to Rs. 1,20,000 considering today’s inflation. We wish government pay attention to this representation and be positive in same direction. In upcoming meeting with government, we will take up this issue with other issues of Nomadic tribes. With this government phrase “Sabka sath Sabka vikas”,we  hope it brings similarities in this Yojana as well.

In the image its Nathbapa Vansvadi from Devpura, out of Rs. 70,000 he received some instalments only but even from full amount also it was impossible to build house.  His whole life has gone under temporary structure, and after so much struggle he got plots and now due to inadequate help, this houses will be finished or not, is what they worry about. 

Like Nathabapa there are thousands of families having similar worries, let us hope government would do something meaningful to help ease their worries.

પંડિત દિનદયાળ આવાસ યોજનામાં ઘર બાંધવા સરકાર 70,000ની મદદ કરે. જેનો લાભ મોટાભાગે વિચરતી વિમુક્ત અને સામાજિક રીતે પછાત જાતિના લોકો લે. જેમની હાલત ખરેખર ખરાબ છે. 

જયારે પ્રધાન મંત્રી આવસ યોજના જેમાં 1,20,000 સહાય મળે. પણ આ યોજનાનો લાભ જેમનું નામ BPL યાદીમાં હોય અથવા સરકારે 2011માં કરેલી સામાજિક આર્થિક મોજણીમાં જેમનુ સ્ટેટ્સ પછાત આવ્યું હૉય તેમને મળે. પણ ગામથી દૂર રહેતી આ જાતિઓના ઘણાનો સમાવેશ આ મોજણીમાં થયો જ નથી. આથી જેમને પ્લોટ મળ્યા એમને પ્રધાન મંત્રી આવાસ યોજના અંતર્ગત મદદ મળતી નથી.

આવાસ યોજના એ ઘર વિહોણા લોકોને ઘર આપવાના સઁકલ્પ સાથે કાર્યરત છે તો આમાં ભેદ કેમ? 

પંડિત દિનદયાળમાં પણ સહાયની રકમ આજની મોંઘવારી ને ધ્યાનમાં રાખી 1, 20,000 થાય એ માટે ઘણા વખતથી રજૂઆત થઇ રહી છે. સરકાર ધ્યાન આપી આ દિશામાં કાર્યરત થાય એમ ઇચ્છીએ. આગામી દિવસોમાં વિચરતી જાતીના મુદ્દે સરકાર સાથે બેઠક કરીશું ત્યારે પણ અન્ય મુદ્દા સાથે આ મુદ્દે વાત કરીશું. આશા છે સબકા સાથ સબકા વિકાસ સૂત્રની સાથે સમાનતા પણ દરેક યોજનામાં આવે. 

ફોટોમાં દેવપુરાના નાથબાપા વાંસવાદી છે. 70000 માંથી અમુક હપ્તા મળ્યા પણ આખી રકમમાંથીયે ઘર નહિ થાય. પોતાની જિંદગી છાપરામાં ગઈ કેટલી મહેનતે પ્લોટ મળ્યા પણ સહાય અપૂરતી મળવાના કારણે ઘર પુરા થશે કે એમ એની ચિંતા છે. 

નાથબાપા જેવી ચિંતા હજારો પરિવારોને છે સરકાર એમની ચિંતા હળવી કરવાની દિશામાં વિચારે એવી અભ્યર્થના....

Happiness and Pain both are the constant and continuous process for our nomads...

We all know this but when we are surrounded by tremendous problems in lives, we feel dark all around us. 

Patani Odha is the village having more population of Devipujak community. During July, 2017 flood devastated everything in this village. Everywhere there were tears around. It looked like it is a cursed village. Cattles died and houses of the 45 families were destroyed in flood. How they will start again was the confusion but some well-wishers from the society came forward to support and we started to work upon to re-habilitate these families.

VSSM gave interest free loan to purchase buffalo. Financial help of Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 50,000 are to be given to the families who are affected during the flood and lost their houses. 

The construction of houses is going on i.e. visible. 

We also can see in the photos with inconsolable pain of devastation on the faces and which has turned in to smile visible!

સુખ અને દુઃખ સતત ચાલતી પ્રક્રિયા. 

આપણે સૌ આ જાણીએ પણ દુઃખનો પહાડ જ્યારે માથે પડે ત્યારે બધીએ બાજુ અંધારુ દીશે.

#પટણીઓઢા #દેવીપૂજકોની વસતિવાળુ ગામ. જુલાઈ 2017ના પુરે આ ગામમાં કાળો કેર વર્તાવ્યો. એ વખતે ચારે તરફ નકરી રોક્કડ હતી. શાપીતગામ લાગ્યું હતું એ વખતે. ખીલે બાંધેલા #ઢોર મર્યાના ને 45 પરિવારોના ઘરોય જમીનદોસ્ત થઈ ગયા. કેમ ઊભા થવાશે તે મૂંઝવતું હતું પણ સમાજમાં બેઠેલા સ્નેહીજનો સાથે આવ્યાને આ પરિવારોને બેઠા કરવાનું શરૃ થયું.

ભેંસ લાવવા વગર વ્યાજે લોન આપી. ને ઘરો બાંધવા 45 પરિવારોને રુપિયા 70,000 થી લઈને રૃા.50,000 સુધીની આર્થિક મદદ કરીશું.

જે ઘરો બની રહ્યા છે તે જોઈ શકાય છે. 

ફોટોમાં કાળો કેર વર્તાયો હતો તે વખતની ગમગીની ને હાલ હવે મોંઢા પર સ્મિત છે તેય જોઈ શકાય છે. સાથે પડી ગયેલા ધરો ને vssmની મદદથી બંધાઈ રહેલા ઘરોય દૃશ્યમાન થાય છે.

કુદરતને એક જ પ્રાર્થના બધાને આમ જ હસતા રાખજે.

VSSM helped Nomadic Community Member Govind Build his Dream House

“You have done more than a family member, I can never thank you enough!!”

“I can never thank you enough, Ben. You are my guardian angel! You were kind enough to notice me and take care of my problems. Can you imagine Govind building a pucca house without the support you have provided? Even relatives wouldn’t care as much as you have..” Govind was overwhelmed by  the fact that he will now be living in a pucca house and his debt ridden life is a problem of past.

I happened to meet Govind or rather Govabhai Bajaniyaa, a resident of Totana village during 2017 floods that devastated Banaskantha. Govind earned his living through selling balloons, hair clips, rubber bands, hairbands etc. The death of his mother had required Govind to borrow Rs. 7,000 from a private money lender. The money was to be spent on the last rites of his mother.  Govind kept paying the instalments but, somehow the amount just did not decrease. The interest and principle amount kept increasing and ballooned up to Rs. 70,000. VSSM helped him free from this debt.

The floods had taken away his shanty and the dream of a house remained as shattered as his present. But, the kindness and support of the well-wishers of VSSM helped Govind realize his dream of a pucca house. Mumbai based Chainikabahen extended support of Rs. 25,000 to help build a house for Govind. Very soon Govind will move into his new home, a development that is still very surreal for him!!  

We will always remain grateful for your  support and kindness.

ગુજરાતી અનુવાદ 

"તમે મારા #માવીતર સો બેન. તમે મને હોભળ્યો અન મારી હોમે તાચ્યુ. નકર આ ગોવિંદનું તે ઈમ કોય પાકુ ઘર થાય? હગાય ના રાખ એવી લાગણી તમે અમાર બલ્લે રાખી. તમાર તો ઓભાર મોનુ એટલો ઓસો."

ગોવિંદ સાચુ નામ ગોવાભાઈ #બજાણિયા ટોટાણાનો વતની. બનાસકાંઠાના પુર વખતે તેને મળવાનું થયું.

મા મૃત્યુ પામીને એનું #કારજ કરવા ગોવિંદ વ્યાજવા સાત હજાર લાવેલો ને એ સાત હજારના એણે સીત્તેર હજાર ચુકવવાના આવ્યા. કમાઈ કમાઈને વ્યાજ ભર્યા જ કરે પણ મુદલ ઓછી ના થાય.. અમે મદદ કરીને એ વ્યાજમાંથી મુક્ત થયો. #ફુગ્ગા, બોરિયા, બકલ વગેરે વેચવાનું ગોવિંદ કરે.

પુરમાં છાપરુને બધુયે તણાઈ ગ્યું. પાકુ ઘર એતો સ્વપ્ન જેવું હતું પણ સંસ્થાને મદદ કરનાર દાતાઓના સહયોગથી ગોવિંદનું ઘર થયું. મુંબઈના ચૈનિકાબહેને પણ ગોવિંદને ઘર માટે રૂપિયા 25,000ની મદદ કરી.

જુઓ ગોવિંદ હવે ટૂંક સમયમાં જ પોતાના અને એ પણ પાકા ઘરવાળો થવાનો...

આભાર પ્રિયજનો...

ગોવિંદ હાલ જ્યાં રહે છે એ છાપરુ તો જોવું જ રહ્યું ને બે મહિનામાં ગોવિંદ જે ઘરમાં રહેવા જવાનો એ પણ દેખાય.. 

‘તમે અંદરથી ઘરનું બોધકોમ જુઓ’ એવો હરખ ગોવિંદનો એટલે ગોવિંદનો એ સ્વપ્ન બંગલો ચણાતો અંદર બહારથી જોયો....

Savitaben Devipujak has been residing in Deesa for years but, never had a single document to prove her address in the town. A bold and gutsy lady, she has raised her five children on her own after her husband walked out of the marriage. Not the kind who loses hope and courage, Savitaben earns her living through selling toys and stuff at village fests and fairs.

VSSM’s Mahesh worked hard and helped her obtain Voter ID card, Ration Card and a two bedroom flat under the Rajiv Gandhi Awas Scheme.

“I want to treat you with a meal, shower you with gifts, my goat is going to deliver soon I will gift you a kid!!” Savitaben tells us with all humility and humbleness.

“Ben, I cannot tell you the happiness I felt after seeing my flat. It has water, power and all the other facilities. But, where do I keep my goats? Also, I do not have an LPG connection so how can I cook. My wood fired sighri will ruin the whitewashed kitchen!! Please help me obtain an LPG connection and also find a solution for my goats. I have got some modifications done in the flat and want to move-in soon but, not without my goats!! Help me resolve this situation, please!”

Savitaben did not have enough savings to pay the down payment to secure the apartment. We helped her with an interest free loan of Rs. 10,000. Savitaben was regular in paying the instalments.  

“It is you all who cared for us and showed concern for our well-being, otherwise who cares what happens t people like us who stay in huts and shanties!!” was a rather upfront and honest opinion Savitaben has for the society. There is open span of land opposite the building where she has her flat. We plan to safeguard a place for her goats in a small patch over that land.

Shri. Pravinbhai Mali, President, Deesa Nagarpalika has helped families like Savitaben’s to help obtain flats in Deesa. And a huge thank you to all of you for the unflinching support.

The picture of us together was captured when I was in Deesa recently, Savitaben took me to her house to see the shelves and her standing kitchen.

‘હુ તમારી હું આગતા સાગતા કરુ પણ આલીખા મારી બકરીન બચ્ચા આબ્બાના તે ઈમોંથી એક તમન આલીશ.’ ડીસામાં રહેતા સવીતાબહેન દેવીપૂજકે આ લાગણી વ્યક્ત કરી.

ડીસામાં વર્ષોથી રહે પણ ઓળખનો એકેય આધાર એમની પાસે નહીં. કાર્યકર મહેશે તેમને મતદારકાર્ડ રેશનકાર્ડ ને રહેવા માટે રાજીવગાંધી આવાસ યોજના અંતર્ગત બેરૃમ રસોડાનો ફ્લેટ અપાવ્યો. 

‘ફલેટ જોઈન રાજી થઈ જીતી બેન. પોણી બોણીની અન લાઈટ બાઈટની અસલ સગવડ હ. પણ બેન મારા બકરાંન ચો રાખુ? અન મારી કન ગેસ નહીં. ફ્લેટની ભેતો ધોળી ઈમોં ચુલો કરુ તો આખુ મકોન કારુ થઈ જાય. તે ગેસનું કોક કરી દો ન મારા બકરાંનુંય. મે ફલેટમાં અભરઈઓ અન બીજા થોડા સુધારા કરાયા. હવ ઝટ રેવા આબ્બુ હ્ પણ મારા બકરાંનું કોક કરજો મન ઈમનાં વના ના ચાલ.’

ફ્લેટ માટે સરકારમાં પૈસા ભરવાના હતા પણ સવીતાબેન પાસે સગવડ નહીં. અમે દસ હજાર વગરવ્યાજવા આપ્યા ને તેના નિયમિત હપ્તા સવીતાબેન ભરે. પતિ પાંચ બાળકોને સવિતાબેનના હવાલે મુકીને જતા રહ્યા પણ હિંમત હાર્યા વગર સવિતાબેને બધાને મોટા કર્યા. હાલ તેઓ મેળામાં રમકડાં વેચીને પુરુ કરે છે.

ડીસા નગરપાલિકાના પ્રમુખ શ્રી પ્રવિણભાઈ માળીએ સવીતાબહેન જેવા પરિવારોને ઘર અપાવવામાં ખુબ મદદ કરી. ફ્લેટ સામે નદીનો ખુલ્લો પટ છે. બસ ત્યાં સવિતાબેનને વાડો વાળી આપીશું જેથી બકરાં ત્યાં રહી શકે. 

‘સાપરાંમાં રેનાર અમન તમે હોવ ન ઘર મલ બાકી અમારી કુન પડી હોય બેન! આવી અદભૂત લાગણી સવીતાબેને વ્યક્ત કરી.’

અમે નિમિત્ત બન્યા બાકી આ બધુ તો આપ સૌની મદદ વગર ક્યાં શક્ય હતું? સૌનો આભાર... 

હમણાં ડીસા ગઈ ત્યારે ફ્લેટમાં બની રહેલી અભરાઈને ઊભું રસોડું જોવા લઈ ગયા. સાથે સરસ ફોટો પણ પડાવ્યો.

VSSM helped Rekhaben Devipujak to fulfill her dream to have her own house

“Av ame lokoni jem re’vanu shikhi jya. Pe’la to na’va dho’vani y hamaj na’ti padti. Sapramo oy-thi-to padyo reta’ta. Hu n ma’ro ghar valo fugga n budhdhina baal vech’ta. Hakhal-Dakhal badhu hede jatu, pan Maheshbhai malya k nai? Tyarti amar ji’van j badlaai jyu.”

“We have now learnt to live like other people. Previously we had no sense of even taking bath or anything! We used to move our hut here to there and stayed on. I and my husband used to sell balloons and Cotton-Candy. It was a kind of irregular life-style until we met Maheshbhai but after meeting him, our life changed.”

During 2009, when we met Rekhabahen Devipujak, she was not having Voter card, Ration Card or any other document that may be helpful to recognize as the citizen of India. Maheshbhai made her understand that life cannot be lead only on the balloons and candy selling. You can start a new business like selling vegetables to fulfill your financial needs. Rekhaben showed enthusiasm and she thought to take chances with the new business. ‘Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch’ helped her by donating a vegetable hand cart costing Rs. 5500. She was worried that if the business may not be well but then slowly and gradually it was streamlined. Her courage to work was boosted with it and she also got in to making hearth out of asbestos sheets. She also did seasonal farming on a partnership basis and earned 37,000 profit in it. Rekhaben’s hard work brought her to enough financial stability to dream for her own house.

She asked for Rs. 10,000 loan and VSSM helped her by providing interest free loan to buy her dream home. She bought house under government scheme. Nearly after the 8 years of struggle, Rekhaben has now her own house and financial stability. 

This help made her sensitive towards her handicapped brother in law’s family which earlier she could not even think because of her own struggle to earn enough to lead her own life well. She now feels so confident that she is able to earn well and may take additional responsibility to help other family members. This is how the sense of helping others has extended in her life. 

VSSM has this strength to help the enthusiastic Rekhaben who struggle to lead life just because of the lack of easy financial help. Our donor’s help becomes the backbone of someone’s life in various people’s life.

“Will you be able to repay the interest free loan you have taken from us?”

“Of course, why not? My husband works as knife sharpener and I take up jobs of shaving cattle hair. We both work hard and will repay the loan with our hard work. Ben, it is obvious we have to repay the loan!”

35 Saraniya and Devipujak families of Chaapi have been allotted residential plots by the government. The Saraniyaa families are about to become first generation home owners. They have initiated the process of construction as well. I recently happen to visit the construction site and the above-mentioned narrative is an excerpt of the dialogue I had with Soniben Saraniya.

“Now we will not be required to spend monsoons under tethered tarpaulins!!’ Imagine the feeling of relief this single statement reveals.

‘અમેય પાકા ઘરવાળા થાશું. પલોટ મલ્યો હવ મેનત કરીન ઈની મોથે ઘર બોધશું. આ પાયા ખંદાયા જોયા તમે?’

ઘર બાંધવા અમારી પાસેથી વગર વ્યાજે લોન લીધી છે એ ભરાશે?

‘હોવન્ ચમ નઈ ભરાય? માર ઘરવાળો ચાકા હજાબ્બા જાય ન હું ભેંસુ બોડવા (હસીને) ભેંસુની હજામત કરવા જઉં સુ. બે પૈસા રળી લઈએ સીએ તે ઈમાંથી લોણ ભરશું. લીધા હોય તો ભરવા તો પડન બેન?’

પોતાની પેઢીઓમાં આ સરાણિયા પહેલાં કે જેઓ પાકા અને એ પણ પોતાના ઘરમાં રહેવા જવાના... છાપીમાં દેવીપૂજક અને સરાણિયા સમુદાયના 35 પરિવારોને #સરકાર દ્વારા પ્લોટ ફાળવાયા. આ પ્લોટ પર ચણતર શરૃ થયું. જે જોવા જવાનું થયું તે વખતે સોનીબહેન સાથે પોતાના અને તે પણ પાકા ઘરની લાગણી અંગે ઘણી વાતો થઈ..

‘હવના #ચોમાસા સાપરાંમાં નઈ નેકળ’ એમ કહીને પોતાનું ઘર બંધાયાનો હરખ તેમણે વ્યક્ત કર્યો..

સોનીબહેનનું હાલનું #ઝુપડું ને બાજુમાં જ નવા ઘરના પાયા ખોદાઈ રહ્યાનું જોઈ શકાય છે...

પ્રભુ નમીએ પુરી પ્રીતે સુખી કર તુ સુખી કરજે... ભાવના સાર્થક....
