"Are you happy with the houses, Hakimbha?"

"Yes, Ben Ba. I am eighty now. I don’t know my birth place. There was no address either. But you made the effort, and today, we have a home. These old eyes are satisfied seeing the house. May Allah bless you."

I have been going to meet these Dafer Families of Bhadwana since 2006. I have been regularly visiting many such nomadic settlement since 2006. Most of the families did not have the identity proofs at that time. We worked hard and now they have got their identity. 

We had made a commitment back then to give permanent homes to families living in slums and makeshift huts. After years of effort, everything started falling into place. With the help of Prime Minister’s dream to give permanent house to everyone and Chief Minister’s compassion, things started to change. The support was also extended by Surendranagar’s district administration. I must also mention former District Collector Shri K. Rajesh. Thanks to the collective efforts, families in Bhadwana received residential plots. They got pucca houses with the help of the organization, its well wishers and the Government officials.  

Historically, Dafer community does not have a bright past. Facing dire poverty, they used to do some robbery and theft. Social stigma and discrimination also played its part somewhere. But we extended our love and support to them. When Revered Morari Bapu conducted a Ram Katha for Nomadic and De-notified tribes in 2011, and during his stay for nine days, he took meals in the ‘Dangas’ of Dafer Community. We worked hard to integrate them into the village community. As a result, today, they have started to settle close to the village. Now, they started getting the identity proofs. The village like Bhadwana took an initiative and these families also received residential plots from the Government.  

A very few villages have made efforts to accept Dafer families, one of them is Bhadwana. Former Sarpanch Shri Kuldeep Sinh played a significant role in this. He thought of embracing this community as his own instead of considering them criminals. 

To us, they feel like family. Their love and care have had a profound impact. Today, many of the Dafer families have found employment, big or small, and we tell them that we will not approve if their name is associated with anything bad. Thanks to this love and hard work, the whole community has started to walk the path of hard work.

Six Dafer families have now been received homes in Bhadvana. The government provided plots and a grant of Rs. 1.32 lakhs for construction. However, this amount wasn’t enough to complete the homes. The families need houses that are sturdy, with two large rooms and provisions for future expansion.

In fulfilling this desire, respected Smt. Kumudben Rashmikantbhai Shah (Lions Club of Samvedna, Ahmedabad), Shri Kishorbhai Patel, (in memory of beloved Kushalbhai), Shri Pratulbhai Shroff - Dr. KR Shroff Foundation, ALAKHS Family - Shri Chetanbhai Parmar and a well-wisher in the memory of Smt. Lalitaben, and Shri Nawalchandbhai, Pujya Shreemati Arvindaben, and Shri Ramniklal Kothari all extended their support. With their help, along with small contributions from the families whose homes were being built, two-room houses with toilets and bathrooms were completed. We are grateful to all of you.

We are constructing 250 houses with the compassion and support extended by Shri Kishorebhai Patel.  A substantial support is received from Shri Pratulbhai Shroff. Our entire team is working relentlessly, and where no one else could help, Pratulbhai and KRSF stood by us. Being surrounded by such selfless people is a blessing. We salute all of you for your compassion.

Once the houses were built, the housewarming ceremony was organized with the presence of the Member of Legislative Assembly from Lakhtar, Shri P.K. Parmar, the Director of Bhavna Roadways, Shri Madhviben Shah, social worker Truptiben Shukla, and several other well-wishers. The MLA wished the families well and also asked for details of all other families in his constituency who are still without homes so that they can be provided with houses too. Madhviben and Truptiben have always been with us, supporting us through thick and thin. They also sent their best wishes.

The families whose houses were completed are now overjoyed. A lot of effort went into this work, especially by Harshadbhai, our fieldworker from Surendranagar, who was constantly running around to help. Others like Pravin, Nitinbhai, Chetanbhai, Maulikbhai, Lineshbhai, Prajakta and others were consistently there to support the cause. The trustee board of our organization also stood by us through all this work. Without strong teamwork, none of this would have been possible. It is truly a privilege to be working with such dedicated people.

Through the efforts of VSSM, the government, and well-wishers, a total of 1,751 houses have been built. This number continues to rise as more and more people join in this noble cause. We pray that nature continues to bless us, and this effort grows further.

May the new homes bring happiness and prosperity to all the families who have received them!"

"ઘર ગમે એવા થ્યા છે ને હકીમભા?"

"હા બેન બા. મને એંસી વર્ષ થ્યા. જનમ્યા ક્યાં એય ક્યાં ખબર હતી. સરનામાંય નહોતા. પણ તમે પ્રયત્ન કર્યા ને જુઓ આજે અમે ઘરવાળા થ્યા. આ બુઢ્ઢી આંખો ઘર જોઈને રાજી થઈ. અલ્લાહ તમારુ હારુ કરે"

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના ભડવાણામાં રહેતા ડફેર પરિવારોના ત્યાં 2006 થી જવું. આમ તો ગુજરાતમાં રહેતા અનેક વિચરતા પરિવારોના ડંગામાં 2006 થી જવાનો નિત્યક્રમ. એ વખતે મોટાભાગના પાસે ઓળખના પુરાવા નહીં. એ મળે એ માટે ખુબ મથ્યા ને સૌ ઓળખાણવાળા થયા. 

એ વેળા સંકલ્પ કરેલો ઝૂંપડામાં- વગડામાં રહેતા પરિવારોને પોતાના પાક્કા ઘરવાળા કરવાનો. વર્ષોથી એ માટે ખૂબ મથીએ. પણ કહે છે ને સમય આવે જ બધુ થાય. આજના મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલની લાગણી ને એમાં વડાપ્રધાનશ્રીનો સૌને પોતાના ઘરવાળા કરવાનો સંકલ્પ ભળ્યો. સુરેન્દ્રનગરનું જિલ્લા વહીવટી તંત્ર પણ પડખે. કે. રાજેશ. સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લા કલેક્ટર શ્રીને પણ યાદ કરવા પડે. આ બધાની લાગણીથી ભડવાણામાં રહેતા પરિવારોને વર્ષો પછી પ્લોટ મળ્યા ને સરકાર અને સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોની મારફત પાક્કા ઘર પણ થયા.

ડફેર પરિવારોનો ઈતિહાસ ઉજળો નહીં. વખાના માર્યા પહેલા ક્યાંક ચોરી કરી લેતા. રોજગારનો અભાવ. સમાજની ધૃણાભરી દૃષ્ટિ એ બધુયે ક્યાંક કારણભૂત. પણ અમે એમને પ્રેમ આપ્યો. પૂ. મોરારી બાપુએ વિચરતી જાતિ માટે 2011માં રામકથા કરી ત્યારે નવ દિવસ ડફેરના ઝૂંપડે જમ્યા. અમે એમને ગામ સાથે ભેળવવા કોશીશ કરી. પરિણામે હવે એમના ડંગા ગામ નજીક નંખાવવા માંડ્યા. પૂરાવા પણ બન્યા ને ભડવાણા જેવા ગામે પહેલ કરીને રહેવા જમીન ફાળવી. 

ગુજરાતમાં બહુ જૂજ ગામો ડફેર પરિવારો માટે આવી પહેલ કરે એ રીતે ભડવાણા નોખુ ને એમાં ગામના ભૂતપૂર્વ સરપંચ કુલદીપસિંહ નો ફાળો મોટો. કોઈ વ્યક્તિ ગુનેગાર હોય એમ માની એને તરછોડવા કરતા એને અપનાવવું અગત્યનું. અમને તો આ બધા અમારા અદના સ્વજનો લાગે. ખૂબ વહાલ પણ કરે.. કદાચ આ વહાલના પ્રતાપે જ આજે મોટાભાગના ડફેર પરિવારો નાના મોટા ધંધે વળગી ગયા. અમે કહીએ કે, તમારા નામ ખોટી બાબતોમાં આવે તો અમને ગમે નહીં. બસ આ નાનકડી વાતે આખો સમાજ મહેનતના માર્ગે વળ્યો. 

આવા ડફેર પરિવારોના છ ઘર ભડવાણામાં બંધાયા. સરકારે પ્લોટ આપ્યો ને મકાન બાંધવા 1.32 લાખ આપ્યા પણ આ રકમમાં ઘર ન બંધાય. વળી આ બધાને ભવિષ્યમાં બીજો માળ બાંધી શકાય તેવા મજબૂત બે મોટા રૃમવાળા ઘર જોઈએ. 

આ મનોકામના પૂર્ણ કરવા VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા આદરણીય કુમુદબેન રશ્મીકાંતભાઈ શાહે (લાયનકલ્બ ઓફ શાહીબાગ- અમદાવાદ), આદરણીય કિશોરભાઈ પેટલે - પ્રિય કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં, શ્રી પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ- ડો.કેઆર શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન, ALAKHS Family - શ્રી ચેતનભાઈ, પૂ. શ્રમીતી લલિતાબેન અને શ્રી નવલચંદભાઈ તેમજ પૂ.શ્રીમતી અરવિંદાબેન અને શ્રી રમણીકલાલ કોઠારીના પૂણ્ય સ્મરણાર્થે સહયોગ તેમજ જેમના ઘર બંધાઈ રહ્યા છે એ પરિવારોએ પણ નાનકડી રકમ ઘર બાંધકામમાં આપી. આમ સૌના સહયોગથી બે રૃમ, ટોલયેલ, બાથરૃમ સાથેના સરસ ઘર બંધાયા. આપ સૌના અમે આભારી છીએ.

આદરણીય કિશોર અંકલની લાગણીથી હાલમાં 250 થી વધારે પરિવારોના ઘરો બંધાઈ રહ્યા છે જ્યારે પ્રતુલભાઈની મદદ પણ મોટી. અમારી આખી ટીમને મજબૂત કરવા, દોડાદોડી કરવા ને એ સિવાય પણ જ્યાં કોઈની મદદ નથી ત્યાં પ્રતુલભાઈ- KRSF અમારી સાથે.. આવા સ્વજનો સાથે હોવાનો રાજીપો.. આપ સૌની લાગણીને પ્રણામ કરીએ છીએ. 

ઘરો બંધાયા પછી આ પરિવારોનો ગૃહપ્રવેશ કરાવવા લખતર વિધાનસભાના ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી પી. કે. પરમાર તેમજ સુરેન્દ્રનગરના ભાવના રોડવેઝ ના ડાયરેક્ટર શ્રી માધવીબેન શાહ, સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં અનેક સેવાકીય પ્રવૃતિઓ સાથે સંકળાયેલા તૃપ્તિબેન શુક્લ અને અન્ય ઘણા સ્વજનો હાજર રહ્યા. 

ધારાસભ્ય શ્રીએ આ પરિવારોને શુભેચ્છા પાઠવી. તેમજ પોતાના મત વિસ્તારમાં વિચરતી જાતિના જેટલા પણ પરિવારો ઘર વગરના છે તેની વિગત આપવા જણાવ્યું જેથી એ તમામને ઘરવાળા કરી શકાય. જ્યારે માધવીબેન અને તૃપ્તિબેન તો અમારા અદના સ્વજન હંમશા અમારી સાથે એમણે પણ શુભેચ્છા પાઠવી.

જ્યારે જેમના ઘર બંધાયા એ પરિવારો તો રાજી રાજી..

VSSMની આખી ટીમની આમાં ઘણી મહેનત. સુરેન્દ્રનગરના અમારા કાર્યકર હર્ષદભાઈની સતત દોડાદોડી. અને એમના સહયોગમાં પ્રાજક્તા,પ્રવિણ, નિતીનભાઈ, પ્રવિણભાઈ, ચેતનભાઈ, મૌલિકભાઈ, લીનેશભાઈ,પરમભાઈ વગેરે સતત રહ્યા. સંસ્થાનું ટ્રસ્ટી મંડળ પણ આ બધા કામમાં સતત સાથે...  મજબૂત ટીમ વર્ક વગર આવા કાર્યો પાર ન પડે. આવી સાથીઓ સંસ્થા સાથે હોવાનો રાજીપો.

VSSM એ સરકારની અને સંસ્થા સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મારફત તેમજ ક્યાંક માત્ર સ્વજનોની મદદથી 1751 ઘર બાંધ્યા. આ આંકડો વધતો જ જાય ને અનેક સ્વજનો આ કાર્યમાં સહભાગી થતા જાય તેવી કુદરતને નિત પ્રાર્થના કરીએ..

નવું ઘર આ બધા પરિવારોને ફળે ને સૌ એમાં સુખી થાય એવી શુભભાવના....

 "She has a strike in Kanpur. She doesn’t speak much. But she is happy. She never imagined any of this. Now, she is definitely going to be content..."

We had reached Dariyaba's home. Her house had been built with the help of respected Kishor Uncle in memory of beloved Kushalbhai. We had come specifically to check if she had settled properly in her new home.

She smiled upon seeing us with a slightly confused expression. Perhaps there was a feeling of joy in her heart, but she couldn't express it in words.

Dariyaba, who lives in Vadodara, is without any support. We provide her with ration every month. Dariyaba manages with that. Our worker, Sunilbhai, regularly checks on her. One time, Sunilbhai saw a differently-abled person at Dariyaba's house. Upon asking, he found out that this was Dariyaba's grandson. Both of her sons had passed away. The grandson lived nearby, in the alleys, on the road, with a torn blanket. When he felt hungry, he would run to Dariyaba’s house, and she would always have food ready for him.

Dariyaba is his grandmother. Her love for him is immense. If her son didn’t visit her even once during the day, Dariyaba would cry like a small child, and the neighbors would then go and find her grandson so that he would at least show his face once a day. But he was his own master. He understood his grandmother's love, which is why he would try to show up at least once a day.

Through VSSM’s support program, we provide ration to 600 helpless elderly destitutes like Dariyaba. Seeing these rations reaching such families brings satisfaction.

A few months ago, Sunilbhai expressed the wish that it would be great if Dariyaba had a proper house. That’s when we planned to meet her, and later, with the help of respected Kishorbhai Patel (Uncle), a house was built for her. Now, she will have protection from the rain and cold.

Dariyaba didn’t say much about the new house, but the neighbors expressed their happiness on her behalf.

As we were leaving Dariyaba’s house, her grandson appeared on the road. We tried to stop the car and talk to him, but he just stood there silently, looking at us as though he couldn’t understand our words.

Seeing families living in such suffering is heartbreaking. The essence or meaning of their life still remains unclear. But, nonetheless, we are happy to have been the means of providing them with some happiness, and we are deeply grateful to Kishor Uncle for his help.

‘એમના કાનપુરમાં હડતાલ છે. એ ઝાઝુ બોલતાય નથી. પણ એ ખુશ છે. કેવામાં પડ્યા’તા. આ બધુ તો એમણે ક્યારેય કલ્પ્યુ

પણ નહોતું. તે હવે રાજી તો થવાના જ ને...’

દરિયાબાના ઘરે અમે પહોંચ્યા હતા. એમનું ઘર આદરણીય કિશોર અંકલની મદદથી પ્રિય કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં બાંધ્યું હતું.

બાંધેલા ઘરમાં એ બરાબર ગોઠવાઈ ગયા છે કે કેમ એ જોવા ખાસ ગયા.

બોખલા મોંઢે એ અમને જોઈને હસ્યા. મનમાં કદાચ હરખનો ભાવ હશે પણ એ શબ્દોમાં વ્યક્ત નહોતો થતો.

વડોદરામાં રહેતા દરિયાબા નિરાધાર અમે એમને દર મહિને રાશન આપીએ. દરિયાબા એમાંથી જમે. અમારા કાર્યકર સુનીલભાઈ

દરિયાબાની ભાળ નિયમીત કાઢે. એક વખત એમણે એક દિવ્યાંગ વ્યક્તિને દરિયાબાના ઘરે જોયા. પુછતાછ કરતા ખબર પડી કે

એ દરિયાબાનો પૌત્ર. પોતાના બેય દિકરા ગુજરી ગયા. પૌત્ર હતો પણ એ દરિયાબાના ઘરની નજીકની શેરીઓમાં, રોડ પર ગોદડુ

ઓઢીને ફર્યા કરે. હા ભૂખ લાગે ત્યારે દોડીને દરિયાબા પાસે આવે ને બા એના માટે રાંધી રાખેલું ખવડાવે.

દરિયાબા એના દાદી. એમનો પ્રેમ પણ જબરો. અગર દીકરો આખા દિવસમાંથી એક પણ વખત આંટો મારવા ઘરે ન આવે તો

દરિયા બા નાના બાળકની જેમ રડે ને પડોશીઓ પછી એમના પૌત્રને શોધી લાવે ને દિવસમાં એક વખત મોંઢુ બતાવી જવાનું

વઢીને કહે. પણ એ એની મરજીનો માલીક. એનેય દાદીનો પ્રેમ સમજાતો હતો માટે જ તો દિવસમાં એક વખત મોંઢુ બતાવી

જવા શક્ય કોશીશ કરતો.

VSSM માવજત કાર્યક્રમ અંતર્ગત દરિયાબા જેવા 600 નિરાધાર બા-દાદાઓને રાશન આપે એ રાશન આવા પરિવારોને પહોંચતુ

જોઈને સંતોષ થાય.

થોડા મહિના પહેલા દરિયાબાની સ્થિતિ જોઈને એમનું ઘર થાય તો સારુ એવો ભાવ અમારા કાર્યકર સુનિલભાઈએ વ્યક્ત કર્યો.

એ વખતે દરિયાબાને મળવાનું થયેલું. ને પછી અમારા આદરણીય કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ(અંકલ) ની મદદથી ઘર બાંધ્યું. હવે એમને

વરસાદ અને ઠંડી સામે રક્ષણ મળશે.

ઘર થયા અંગે બા તો કશું ન બોલ્યા પણ પડોશીઓએ આ કરી આપ્યોનો હરખ વ્યક્ત કર્યો.

અમે દરિયાબાને મળીને નીકળ્યા ત્યારે રસ્તામાં એમનો પૌત્ર દેખાયો. ગાડી ઉભી રાખી એની સાથે વાત કરવા કોશીશ કરી પણ

એ ચુપચાપ અનિમેષ નજરે જાણે મારા શબ્દો સમજાતા ન હોય એમ જોઈ રહ્યો.

ખરેખર આવી પીડામાં જીવતા પરિવારોને જોઈને જીવ બળે. આમના જીવનનો મર્મ કે અર્થ શું એ આજેય નથી સમજાતું. પણ

ખેર એમને સુખ આપવામાં અમે નિમિત્ત બન્યા એનો રાજીપો ને કિશોર અંકલનો ઘણો ઘણો આભાર...

Mittal Patel meets Jasiben

"My family has been through a lot over time. He was a servant and used to leave my property and go. At times, he would work hard but still could not bring anything home. There was no permanent shelter. We lived in makeshift huts. There was always hope for our own house. But how could we build a house by working as laborers? It was a distant dream, having a proper home."

Jasiben, who lives in the Diyodar area, shared this from the comfort of her own permanent home. For years, VSSM has been working to provide residential plots to wandering families in Diyodar. Workers like Naranbhai and Ishwarbhai have put in tremendous efforts. After years of hard work, with the support of the village sarpanch and the administration of Banaskantha, these families were allocated plots.

The government helped by providing Rs. 1.20 lakh for constructing houses on these plots. However, this amount was not enough to build a proper house. All the families had hoped for their own permanent homes, including two rooms, a toilet, and a bathroom.

Many well-wishers, including those associated with VSSM, contributed to this cause. The biggest contribution came from the respected Kishorbhai Patel (Uncle), who made significant efforts in memory of his beloved Kushalbhai. This family also contributed their small share towards the construction of the homes. Through collective efforts, houses are being built.

Fifty families will have their homes completed in the first phase, and as more government assistance arrives, the construction of homes will continue.

It brings immense joy to see these families, who have lived in inhuman conditions for centuries and whose ancestors never lived in a permanent house, finally get their own homes. A heartfelt thanks to respected Kishor Uncle, other well-wishers associated with VSSM, and the government.

‘મારા ઘરવાળાન્ ગુજરી જ્યે ઘણો વખત થ્યો. એ ચો નોકરિયાત હતો તે મારા બલ્લે મિલકત મુચીને જાય? એક ફદિયોય એ જ્યો

તાણ મારી પાહેણ નતો. પાસુ ઝેણા ઝેણા સોકરા મારા હૈઈણ મુકીન જ્યા. ઘરબાર કોય નતું. આખા દિયોદરમાં ઓય થી તો -જો જગ્યા મલી તો ઝૂંપડા નોખી ન રઈ. એક આશા હતી પોતાના ઘરની. પણ મજૂરી કરીન્ સોકરા પાલબુ ક ઘર કરુ? હાચુ કઉં ઘરની મન સેજ્જેય આશા નતી.’

દિયોદરમાં રહેતા જસીબેન આ વાત એમના પોતાના પાક્કા ઘરમાં બેસીને કહી રહ્યા હતા. વર્ષોથી દિયોદરમાં રહેતા વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે VSSM પ્રયત્નો કરે. કાર્યકર નારણભાઈ અને ઈશ્વરભાઈની આમાં ભારે મહેનત. વર્ષોની મહેનત પછી ગામના સરપંચ શ્રીથી લઈને સમગ્ર બનાસકાંઠાના વહીવટીતંત્રની લાગણીથી આ પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફળવાયા.

પ્લોટ પર ઘર બાંધવા સરકારે 1.20 લાખની મદદ કરી. પણ આટલી નાની રકમમાં ઘર ન બંધાય. વળી બધા પરિવારોને આશા પોતાનું પાક્કુ એ પણ બે રૃમ, ટોયલેટ, બાથરૃમ સાથેનું ઘર થાય એવી.

આ માટે VSSM સાથે સંક્ળાયેલા અનેક સ્વજનો સાથે આવ્યા. જેમાં સૌથી મોટો ફાળો આદરણીય કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ

(અંકલ)નો. પ્રિય કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં તેઓ ઘર બાંધકામમાં ખાસ્સો સહયોગ કરે. આ પરિવારોએ પણ પોતાનો નાનકડો શ્રેય ઘર બાંધકામમાં આપ્યો. આમ સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી ઘરો બાંધવાનું થઈ રહ્યું છે.

પચાસ પરિવારોના ઘરો પ્રથમ ફેઝમાં પુરા થશે એ પછી જેમ જેમ સરકારી સહાય આવતી જશે તેમ તેમ ઘરોનું બાંધકામ આગળ વધારીશું.

સદીઓથી અમાનવીય સ્થિતિમાં જીવતા ને જેમની પેઢીઓમાંથી કોઈ પાક્કા ઘરમાં ક્યારેય રહ્યું નથી તેમને ઘર આપવામાં નિમિત્ત બન્યાનો આનંદ છે.આદરણીય કિશોર અંકલ, VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા અન્ય સ્વજનો ને સરકારનો ઘણો ઘણો આભાર.આવા તકવંચિત પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ સમજી તમે આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરો... આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા.

"Some are troubled by their caste, and some are troubled by their lineage.

Our narrow perspective and actions create a lot of disturbance.

This poem from Shunya Palanpuri always comes to mind when talking about the permanent settlement of wandering communities.

In many villages, families who have lived there for years are still not accepted by the villagers. However, in the Nichi Mandal of Morbi, the villagers, panchayat members, and the sarpanch showed respect and helped settle our 18 Gadaliya families in their village.

We worked hard to ensure that the government allocated plots for residential purposes. We also provided necessary identification documents.

Once the plots were allocated, under the Pandit Deendayal Awas Yojana, assistance of ₹1.20 lakh was also provided.

Before starting to build the homes, we asked the 18 families what kind of house they wanted, and everyone expressed a desire for houses like bungalows.

For ordinary people, having a home is a big thing. As generations had lived in tents, dreaming of a good house was natural.

We decided to build homes with two rooms, a kitchen, and a toilet/bathroom. The cost was quite high. The families contributed as per their abilities, and in addition, we received support from our respected individuals associated with VSSM, such as Shri Kanubhai Doshi, Shri Naveenchandra Mehta, Shri Rashminbhai Sanghvi, Shri Alim Adadiya, Shri Mayurbhai Nayak (Mabap Foundation), Smt. Bhavanaben Mehta (Aparna Foundation), Smt. Neetaben Parikh, late Shri Kalpeshbhai Parikh, Shri J.B. Packaging, Smt. Sudhaben Patel, Smt. Jashuben Patel, and the Alakhs family. This allowed the 18 families to move into a proper settlement from the slums.

The Chief Minister of the state, Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel, continuously supported this effort to provide homes to families without them. In addition, the Welfare Department, Morbi District Administration, and the Social Welfare Officer also provided continuous support, making this work possible.

After the homes of the 18 families were completed, their housewarming ceremony was conducted with the visit of Tankara's MLA, Shri Durlabhjibhai. A compassionate person, he immediately gave instructions for road and electricity facilities as well.

Our workers, Kanubhai and Chhayaben, worked tirelessly... They worked day and night to handle the paperwork in government offices and kept the families united despite minor conflicts.

Such dedicated workers are essential for the success of such projects.

We have built 1,751 homes... and now, our aim is to bring as many families as possible from huts to solid homes.

Once again, we express our gratitude to the government, our relatives associated with VSSM, villagers, the MLA, and the sarpanch.

We wish the families who once lived in huts now find happiness in the new settlement of Vhalapni Vasahat.

કોઈને નાત ખટકે છે કોઈને જાત ખટકે છે

અમોને સંકુચિત દૃષ્ટિ તણો ઉત્પાત ખટકે છે

શૂન્ય પાલનપુરીનો આ શેર અમારા વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોના કાયમી વસાવટની વાત આવ્યા ત્યારે અચૂક યાદ આવે.

અનેક ગામોમાં વર્ષોથી રહેતા પરિવારોને આજેય ગ્રામજનો અપનાવવા રાજી નથી ત્યારે મોરબીના નીચીમાંડલના ગ્રામજનો, પંચાયતના સભ્યો અને સરપંચ માટે માન થાય એવી રીતે એમણે અમારા 18 ગાડલિયા પરિવારોને એમના ગામમાં વસાવ્યા. 

રહેણાંક અર્થે સરકાર પ્લોટ ફાળવે એ માટે અમે મથ્યા.ઓળખના પુરાવા પણ અપાવ્યા.

પ્લોટ ફળવાયા પછી પંડિત દિનદયાળ આવાસ યોજના અંતર્ગત 1.20 લાખની સહાય અપાવવામાં પણ નિમિત્ત બન્યા. 

ઘર બાંધવાનું શરૃ કરતા પહેલા 18 પરિવારોને ઘર કેવા જોઈએ એ પુછ્યું ને સૌએ બંગલા જેવા ઘરની કામના કહી. 

નાના માણસો માટે ઘર કરવું મોટી વાત વળી પેઢીઓ રઝળતા ગઈ એટલે મજાના ઘરની કલ્પના હોવી સાહજીક.

અમે બે રૃમ, રસોડુ, ટોયલેટ બાથરૂમ વાળુ ઘર બાંધવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. ખર્ચ ઘણો થાય એમ હતો. પરિવારોએ એમના ગજા પ્રમાણે ટેકો કર્યો એ સિવાયનો ટેકો VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા અમારા આદરણીય શ્રી કનુભાઈ દોશી, શ્રી નવીનચંદ્ર મહેતા, શ્રી રશ્મીનભાઈ સંઘવી, શ્રી અલીમ અડાદિયા, શ્રી મયુરભાઈ નાયક- માબાપ ફાઉન્ડેશન, શ્રીમતી ભાવનાબેન મહેતા, અપર્ણ ફાઉન્ડેશન, શ્રીમતી નીતાબહેન પરીખ અને સ્વ.શ્રી કલ્પેશભાઈ પરીખ, શ્રી જેબી પેકેજિંગ - શ્રીમતી સુધાબહેન પટેલ- શ્રીમતી જશુબેન પટેલ, Alakhs family એ કર્યો ને 18 પરિવારો વગડામાંથી વહાલપની વસાહતમાં રહેવા ગયા.

ઘર વિહોણા પરિવારોને ઘર આપવાના આ કાર્યમાં રાજ્યના મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલનો સહયોગ સતત મળ્યો. એ સિવાય, વિકસતી જાતિ કલ્યાણ ખાતુ,  મોરબી જિલ્લા વહીવટીતંત્ર, સમાજ કલ્યાણ અધિકારી સૌએ પણ સતત સહયોગ કર્યો માટે આ કાર્ય થઈ શક્યું.

18 પરિવારોના ઘરો બંધાયા પછી એમનો ગૃહપ્રવેશ કરાવવા ટંકારાના ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી દુર્લભજીભાઈ ખાસ પધાર્યા. લાગણીવાળા વ્યક્તિ એમણે તુરત રસ્તા, વિજળીની સુવિધા માટે પણ સૂચના આપી.

અમારા કાર્યકર કનુભાઈ અને છાયાબહેનની મહેનત સખત.. સરકારી કચેરીમાં કાગળિયા કરવાનું, ક્યાંક નાની મોટી માથાકૂટમાં પરિવારોને સાથે રાખવાનું  આ બેયે દિવસ રાત જોયા વગર કર્યું...

આવા નિષ્ઠાવાન કાર્યકરો સાથે હોય એટલે આવા કાર્યો પાર પડે..

અમે 1751 ઘર બાંધ્યા... નેમ વધારે ને વધારે પરિવારોને ઝૂંપડામાંથી પાક્કા ઘરમાં લઈ જવાની.. 

ફરી સરકાર, VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા અમારા સ્વજનો, ગ્રામજનો, ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી, સરપંચ શ્રી સૌનો આભાર માનીએ છીએ...

પહેલા ગાડુ જ જેમનું ઘર હતું એ પરિવારો વ્હાલપની વસાહતમાં સુખી થાય એવી શુભભાવના...

"Now, we have found a way out of the troubles. Once the house is built, we will need to stay and take care of it. When the electricity bill arrives, we will have to work hard to pay it. We may not have been educated, but now we will educate the children... This was said by Raju Bhai Gadaliya with joy.

With the help of the government and VSSM, and with the support of our well-wishers, we built homes for 18 families in the Nichi-Mandal of Morbi... Everyone was overjoyed. We are happy to be the reason for it.

So far, we have built homes for 1,751 families. We pray that God gives us the strength to build as many more houses as possible and that everyone becomes a part of this work."

હવે રઝળપાટમાંથી છુટકારો મળ્યો. ઘર થ્યા તે સંભાળવા ઘરે રહેવું પડશે. લાઈટબીલ પણ આવશે તો એ ભરવા મહેનતેય કરવી પડશે. અમે નથી ભણ્યા પણ છોકરાઓને હવે તો ભણાવીશું... રાજુભાઈ ગાડલિયાની હરખથી આ ક્હયું. 

મોરબીનું નીચી માંડલ 18 પરિવારોના ઘરો અમે સરકાર અને VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનોની મદદથી બાંધ્યા... સૌના હરખનો પાર નહોતો. અમને નિમિત્તનો આનંદ. 

1751 પરિવારોના ઘરો અત્યાર સુધી બાંધ્યા. બસ વધુમાં વધુ ઘરો બાંધી શકીએ એવી ક્ષમતા કુદરત આપે ને સૌને આ કાર્યમાં સહભાગી બનાવે તેવી પ્રાર્થના..

Will you come to live once the house is built?" "Why wouldn’t we come?" "I’ve lived my whole life in a shed in Surendranagar. Recently, I rented a house, but if I want a good house, the rent is very high. Have you seen my house? The roof could fall at any time. We’ve faced a lot of trouble living in the shed. The house is old, but we still have to pay a decent rent. If we get our own place, then there won’t be any rent. Also, this new house will have proper lights and water, so we will definitely come once it’s ready, sister."

This is what Kiranbhai from Surendranagar said in response to the question.

The government allocated plots for 55 families in Khamisna village for residential purposes. We worked hard for this. Even starting the construction was a big challenge, but when the Chief Minister took interest, the construction finally began.

Each family will receive Rs. 1.20 lakh from the government, although the cost of the house is over Rs. 3.5 lakh. The families will contribute a little more, and the remaining amount will be donated by our relatives, Kishorbhai Patel and Kishor Uncle, who live in America, in memory of Kushalbhai.

In Khamisna, a Kush Society will be established where everyone will live harmoniously, without the fear of anyone being asked to vacate.

If the government’s housing assistance installments are paid on time, the work will progress quickly. We will work hard to ensure the installments are received, and once they come, we will take everyone from the makeshift shelters to their new homes.

Harshadbhai from the VSSM team has been continuously helping these families with paperwork and coordinating efforts. There are many tasks involved in building a house, and Harshadbhai and our office team will oversee all of them.

We are extremely grateful to the government, especially the Chief Minister, the Collector, and the Social Welfare Officer, as well as to Kishor Uncle. Through the collective efforts of the community, the government, and the organization, we can see the excellent results from the 1751 houses we have constructed.

We hope that nature will help provide roofs for more and more families, and we wish the families whose houses are being built in Khamisna all the best.

 ઘર બનશે પછી રહેવા આવશો?’

‘કેમ નહીં આવીએ?’

‘છાપરુ વાળી આખી જીંદગી સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં રયો. થોડા વખતથી ઘર ભાડે લીધું. પણ સારુ ઘર લઉં તો ભાડું ઘણું દેવું પડે. તમે જોયું છે ને મારુ ઘર? એ ઘરની છત ગમે ત્યારે પડે એવી પણ શું કરીએ, છાપરામાં હેરાન ઘણું થઈએ એટલે.. જર્જરીત ઘર છે તોય ભાડુ સરખુ દેવું પડે. જો પોતાનું થઈ જાય તો પછી ભાડુ બચે. વળી ફળિયા વાળુ આ ઘર, લાઈટ, પાણીની સુવિધા વાળુ થવાનું તો રહેવા આવીશું જ ને બેન..’

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના કીરણભાઈએ પુછાયેલા પ્રશ્નના જવાબમાં કહ્યું. 

સરકારે ખમીસણા ગામમાં 55 પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફાળવ્યા. એ માટે અમે ઘણું મથેલા. મકાન બાંધકામ શરૃ કરવા પણ ભારે મહેનત કરવી પડેલી. છેક મુખ્યમંત્રીશ્રીએ રસ લીધો ત્યારે જતા બાંધકામ શરૃ થયું.

સરકારના 1.20 લાખ પ્રત્યેક પરિવારને મળશે. જ્યારે મકાનની કિંમત તો 3.5 લાખથી વધારે. પરિવારો પણ થોડા ઘણા ઉમેરશે ને બાકીના અમારા અમેરિકા રહેતા કિશોરભાઈ પટેલ- કિશોર અંકલ પ્રિય કુશલભાઈની સ્મૃતિમાં આપશે. 

ખમીસણામાં કુશ સોસાયટી બનવાની.. જ્યાં સૌ કુશળતાથી રહેશે.. કોઈને જગ્યા ખાલી કરાવશે નો ડર નહીં લાગે.

સરકારના મકાન સહાયના હપ્તા સમયસર મળે તો કામ ઝડપથી પુરુ થાય બસ હપ્તા મળે તે માટે મથીશું.. ને સૌને વગડામાંથી વહાલથી વસાહતમાં લઈ જઈશું.

VSSM ટીમમાંથી હર્ષદભાઈ સતત આ પરિવારો સાથે. કાગળ કરાવવા, પરિવારોને ભેગા કરવા. ઘર બંધાતું હોય ત્યાં કયા કામો ન હોય? એ બધા  કામોની દેખરેખ હર્ષદભાઈ અને અમારી ઓફીસની ટીમ રાખે..

સરકાર ખાસ તો મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી, કલેક્ટર શ્રી, સમાજ કલ્યાણ અધિકારી શ્રીનો તેમજ અમારા કિશોર અંકલના અમે ખુબ આભારી. સમાજ, સરકાર અને સંસ્થાના પ્રયત્નોથી કેવા ઉત્તમ પરિણામો મળી શકે તે અમે બાંધેલા 1751 ઘરોથી જોઈ શકીએ.

કુદરત વધારે ને વધારે પરિવારોના માથે છત અપાવવામાં નિમિત્ત બનાવે તેવી શુભભાવના...

ખમીસણામાં બંધાઈ રહેલા ઘરો ને જેમના ઘર બંધાઈ રહ્યા છે તે પરિવારો સાથે સંવાદ....
