Sarbai Ma from Bhadwana village in Surendranagar has been saying this for years. Whenever we visited her, she would always talk about how much longer she had to wait...

We used to say that if it were in our hands to give a house, we would do it in a snap. But the job of allotting plots is with the government. Anyway, after years of effort and with the help of the village Sarpanch Shri Kuldeepbhai, the family members of Sarbai Ma in Bhadwana got plots. We started building the house. Seeing this, Sarbai Ma was very happy.

When we went to see her, she would first kiss our hands and then express her sorrow. She spoke with such affection, calling me her daughters, that I felt deeply moved.

She had a problem with her leg and had to have it amputated. She was physically very troubled. But she lived with the hope of seeing her son's house, and when we started building the house, she said now her heart is at peace...

Today, having felt this peace, Sarbai Ma departed from this world. But her heart was at peace. Our Harshad informed her of the news. Volunteer Harshad has been tirelessly working for all these families for years... He was also distressed by Sarbai Ma's passing but satisfied that her last wish was fulfilled.

Fulfilling someone's hope is such a great thing. As VSSM, we are pleased to have been an instrument in this.

We are grateful to the government, the Lions Club of Sanvedna-Shaibaug, esteemed Kumudben, and esteemed Kishorebhai Patel (USA) who helped in the construction of the house. The task of giving peace to Sarbai Ma was only possible through all these kind well wishers...

ખેર વર્ષોની મહેનતથી અને ગામના સરપંચ શ્રી કુલદીપભાઈની મદદથી ભડવાણાના સારબાઈમાના પરિવારના વ્યક્તિઓને પ્લોટ મળ્યા.

અમે ઘર બાંધવાના શરૃ કર્યું. એ જોઈને સારબાઈમા રાજી રાજી..

જ્યારે ડંગે જવું તો પહેલાં હાથ ચુમે ને પછી દુઃખણા લે.. આવી મારી દીકરી એવું એવા હેતથી બોલે કે સાંભળીને ગદગદ થઈ જવાય.

એમને પગમાં તકલીફ થઈ પગ કાપવો પડ્યો. શારિરીક રીતે ખુબ હેરાન થતા હતા. પણ દીકરાનું ઘર થાય એ જોવાની આશામાં એ જીવતા ને અમે ઘર બાંધવાના શરૃ કર્યા એટલે એમણે કહ્યું હવે જીવને નિરાંત...

આ નિરાંત એમણે અનુભવી ને આજે સારબાઈમાએ આ દુનિયામાંથી વિદાય લીધી. પણ એમના જીવને ટાઢક હતી. અમારા હર્ષદે એમને આ સમાચાર આપ્યા. કાર્યકર હર્ષદ વર્ષોથી આ બધા પરિવારો માટે સતત મથે... એ પણ સારબાઈમા જવાથી વ્યથીથ. પણ સંતોષ એમનું સમણું પુરુ થયાનો પણ ખરો.. 

કોઈની આશા પુરી કરવી કેટલી મોટી વાત.. VSSM તરીકે અમે નિમિત્ત બન્યાનો રાજીપો..

Mittal Patel meets Tejima in her shanty

 "Ever since we got this rice, I haven't had a peaceful sleep. The rats keep on running around and make cluttering noise with their teeth. The rice bag had to be kept moving and in doing that I couldn't sleep".

Tejima from Lotiya Village from Radhanpur in Patan District had told me this about 3 years ago. We had given her all the rice at one stroke and she had no containers to store the rice. She had suffered a lot of inconvenience because of that. After that  Aslambhai, our very dear friend through FaceBook, had helped by gifting the containers. Tejiba got happy seeing the containers and felt as if she had got a dowry in her marriage. 

After a long time I got a chance to meet Tejiba. From a temporary shed she now had a permanent home with a toilet built with the help of our dear Priyankaben Saha.

Tejiba must now be around 76 years old. She has not seen her mother. Her siblings took care of her. She got married and went to her husband's home. She had to do a lot of hard work there too. Her husband died about 20 years ago. She had to come back to her parent's home. She has a daughter who got married. Daughter also got widowed & has young kids. 

Tejima said " I have never seen happiness in my life. You gave me ration and because of that I was saved from undue labour" Tejima's home had got destroyed in this monsoon. With Priyankaben's financial help  & the concern of our associates,Mohanbhai & Shankarbhai., we could  provide a home for Tejiba. 

Priyankaben has been generous with her help. Not only this home for Tejiba, she also helped in providing food kits for 15 elderly couples and  in planting 2000 tree saplings. 

Tejima was insisting that I come & see her home. When I visited her home, she was overwhelmed to see me and said she felt  as if her parents had come to her home.  She said that in her old age now she could feel happy. When she didn't have a home, she wanted to die but now with her having a home she wanted to live for a few more years & enjoy life. The ladies from the neighbourhood joked that Tejima now has everything , rice & dal everyday to eat and a nice home to stay in. Tejima was thankful to us for these changes in her life. Priyankaben, Aslambhai & our VSSM associates have no relations with Tejiba, yet all were worried about her. 

This is humanity. If every person can take care of the person in their neighbourhood who is in difficulty lot of miseries in this world can be eradicated 

We at VSSM give ration (food kits) to such 600 old people and also help in other ways that we can.

'આ ચોખા આલ્યા તાણથી હખેથી ઊંઘી નઈ હકી. ઉંદેડા આખી રાત કટકટ કરીન્ હેરોન કર. તે ચોખાની કોથળી ઘડીયે ઘડીયે ફેરબ્બી પડ અન્ ઈમન ઈમ ઊંઘી ના હકુ.'

પાટણના રાધનપુરના લોટિયાગામના તેજીમાએ આ વાક્ય ત્રણ વર્ષ પહેલાં કહેલું. અમે એક સામટા ચોખા આપી દીધેલા તે ભરવા ડબ્બા નહોતા ને એના લીધે એમને હેરાનગતિ થયેલી.

એ પછી ફેસબુક પર જેમની સાથે મેળાપ થયેલો એવા અમારા પ્રિયજન અસ્લમભાઈ પટેલે ડબ્બા ભેટરૃપે મોકલી આપ્યા.

ડબ્બા જોઈને તેજીમા હરખાઈ ગયેલા એમણે એ વેળા કહેલું, 'મારુ જાણે આજે આણુ કર્યું હોય એવુ લાગ્યું.'

આજે ઘણા વખતે પાછુ તેજીમાના ત્યાં જવાનું થયું. એ છાપરાંમાં રહેતા એમાંથી એમનું પાક્કુ એક રૂમ, ટોયલેટ સાથેનું ઘર અમે અમારા પ્રિય પ્રિયંકાબેન સહાની મદદથી બાંધ્યું. 

તેજીમાની હાલની ઉંમર 76 આસપાસ હશે. પોતાની માનું મોંઢુ એમણે જોયું નથી. એમના ભાઈ બહેનોએ એમને મોટા કર્યા. પરણીને સાસરે ગયા. કાળી મજૂરી ત્યાં પણ કરી. 20 વર્ષ પહેલાં પતિ ગુજરી ગયા એટલે પિયરીયા એમને તેડી લાવ્યા. એક દિકરી છે. જેને એમણે પરણાવી. એ દીકરી પણ હમણાં વિધવા થઈ એને નાના બાળકો છે. 

તેજીમા કહે, 'સુખ કોઈ દિવસ જોયું જ નહી. તમે રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું તે એનાથી મને શાંતિ થઈ ગઈ. કોઈની ઓશિયાળી વેઠવાની મટી.'

આવા તેજીમાનું છાપરુ આ ચોમાસે પડી ગયું. અમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈ અને શંકરભાઈને એમની ચિંતા તે એમણે આપણે એક રૃમ, ટોયલેટ સાથેનું ઘર બનાવી દઈએ તો તેજીમાને શાંતિ થઈ જશેનું કહ્યું ને પ્રિયંકાબેનની મદદથી અમે એ બાંધ્યું.

પ્રિયંકાબેન અમારા 15 માવતરોને રાશનકીટ આપે. એ સિવાય 2000 વૃક્ષોનું જંગલ કર્યું ને આ ઘર પણ.. 

તેજીમાનો આગ્રહ હતો ઘર જોવા આવવાનો તે ખાસ જવાનું થયું. એમણે માટલી પણ મુકવડાવી. એમણે કહ્યું, 'જોણ આજે મારુ મામેરુ થ્યું. મારા મા-બાપ મારા ઘરે આયા હોય ઈમ લાગ્યું. તમે ઘરડે ઘડપણ મન સુખ આલ્યું, પેલા થતું ભગવોન લઈ લે તો હારુ પણ હવ ઘર થ્યું. હવ થોડા વરહ કાઢવાનું મન હ્. મેલ્લાની વહુઓ હસીન્ કે ક, તેજીમા તમાર તો ચેવું હારુ દાળ, ભાત રોધીન રોજ ખાવાના, હવ તો ઘરેય થઈ જ્યું. આ બધા માટે તમારા બધાનો ઓભાર માનુ એટલો ઓસો.'

તેજીમાની આંખોમાં ચમક હતી. એમણે પંખો અને એક ખાટલો અમે જઈ રહ્યા ત્યારે માંગ્યો. એ કહે, 'કોઈ પાહેણ માંગવાનું ગમે નહીં પણ તમે મા ક્યો એટલે કહ્યું... '

કેવી લાગણી..

પ્રિયંકાબેન, અસ્મલભાઈ અમારી ટીમ આ બધાની શું સગાઈ તેજીમા સાથે છતાં બધા એકબીજાની ચિંતા કરે..

આમ તો આજ માનવતા.. દરેક વ્યક્તિ પોતાની આસપાસમાં રહેતા તકલીફમાં હોય તેવા વ્યક્તિઓની ચિંતા કરતો થઈ જાય તો પણ આ દુનિયામાંથી ઘણા દુઃખ દુર થઈ જાય.

અમે તેજીમા જેવા 600 નિરાધાર માવતરોને દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે અને અન્ય જરૃરી શક્ય મદદ પણ કરીએ.

The government recently allotted residential plots to 159  families belonging to nomadic and de-notified communities and living on the wasteland in  Rajkot’s Gondal town. The families will now proceed to plan for the construction of houses over the allotted plots. However, given the current construction rates it is difficult to accomplish construction of a decent house including a sanitation unit in Rs. 1.5 lacs.

Since the beginning, VSSM aids house construction for impoverished families.  On insistence of Rajkot’s Additional Collector Shri  Rameshbhai Aal, VSSM has taken upon itself the responsibility of supporting construction of houses of families who earn their living working as  menial labour or picking trash.

Recently, the support from our well-wishers enabled us perform a ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ at Gundala village where the houses for these 159 families will be constructed.

The Gondal administration and civil society remained on their feet during the occasion. Gondal leads the way as it is for the first time the government and civil society have come together for the cause of providing shelter to the deprived communities.  

Our dear Ujamshibhai has taken up the responsibility of constructing houses for these families, the cost of which is huge. It is the reason we have appealed the civil society to donate generously towards this construction.

Food, Clothing and Shelter; the three primary needs of human survival. While clothing and food can be  easily accomplished these days, shelter/housing remains a distant dream for the numerous impoverished communities. The houses that are constructed on a shoe string budget  do not last beyond few years,  forcing its inhabitants to move back to shanties. Such construction also means  wastage of precious natural resources. A pucca house provides  security blanket to homeless families especially to the women and  young girls who otherwise have hard time saving themselves from prying eyes as street dwellers. VSSM, especially emphasises  on homes for the homeless.

Additional District collector Shri Rajesh Aal, Deputy Director at Department of Social Welfare, Block Development Officer,  Shri Kalpeshbhai,  Chairman Gondal Municipal Corporation  and APMC Gondal and the well-wishing citizens of Gondal remained present at the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony. Thank you all for your presence.

The government has provided land and aid to construct houses, but  the amount needed to build a strong and long lasting house is being mobilised from VSSM’s well-wishers. VSSM is grateful to all of you for  supporting the cause.  It is a long list of donors, hence not mentioning it here, but we are glad to have your support and encouraging others to be a part of this effort.  As a result of your help a beautiful and cherished settlement will soon being to  take form. 

ભૂમીપૂજન..

વિચરતી જાતિના અસ્થાયી પડાવોમાં રહેતા પરિવારોમાંના રાજકોટના ગોંડલમાં રહેતા 159 પરિવારોને કાયમી સરનામુ આપવાનું સરકારની મદદથી થયું.

પ્લોટ મળ્યા હવે વાત આવી ઘર બાંધવાની. આજની મોંઘવારીમાં દોઢ લાખમાં સેનીટેશન યુનીટ સાથેનું ટકાઉ ઘર બાંધવું શક્ય નહીં. 

અમે વર્ષોથી આ પરિવારોમાંના નબળી સ્થિતિ ધરાવતા પરિવારોને ઘર બાંધકામમાં આર્થિક મદદ કરીએ. તે ગોંડલમાં પ્રાંત કલેકટર શ્રી રાજેશભાઈ આલના આગ્રહને લીધે ભંગાર વીણી જીવતા તો કેટલાક છુટક મજૂરી કરી જીવતા પરિવારોને ઘર બાંધી આપવાનું અમે માથે લીધું. 

જ્યાં ઘર બાંધવાના છે તે ગુંદાડાગામની જમીન પર આ પરિવારો માટે લાગણી રાખનાર સૌ સ્નેહીજનોની મદદથી ભૂમીપૂજન કર્યું.

ગોંડલનું વહીવટીતંત્ર ને ગોંડલના સુખી ને સમજણા માણસો આ કાર્યમાં ખડેપગે. વંચિતોના ઘર બંધાતા હોય ત્યાં સમાજ ને સરકારનો આવો સરસ સુયોગ ખાસ જોયો નથી પણ ગોંડલ એ રીતે નોખુ ને સૌને શીખ આપનારુ.

અમારા ઊજમશીભાઈએ આ પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધવાનું માથે લીધું. ખર્ચ ખાસો મોટો છે. એટલે સમાજને મદદ માટે આહવાન કર્યું છે. 

રોટી, કપડાં ઔર મકાન માણસની પ્રાથમિક જરૃરિયાત. આજે કપડાં ને રોટી લગભગ માણસ મેળવી લે. પણ મકાન કરવું એ ગરીબ માણસ માટે બહુ મશ્કેલ. ઓછા ખર્ચમાં ઘર થાય પણ એ મજબૂત ન થાય ને પાંચ સાત વર્ષમાં ઘર જર્જરીત ને પરિવાર પાછો છાપરાંમાં. આમાં કુદરતી સંસાધનનો બગાડ પણ ઘણો થાય. વળી ઘર એ સુરક્ષા આપે છે ખાસ તો બાળકો ને જુવાન દીકરીઓને...એટલે ઘર વિહોણા પરિવારોને ઘર મળે તેને અમે મહત્તા આપીએ.

ભૂમીપૂજન કાર્યક્રમાં પ્રાંત કલેકટર શ્રી રાજેશ આલ, નાયબ નિયામક શ્રી સમાજકલ્યાણ, મામલતદાર શ્રી, તાલુકા વિકાસ અધિકારી શ્રી, ગોંડલ નગરપાલિકા તેમજ ગોંડલ એપીએમસીના ચેરમેન કલ્પેશભાઈ તેમજ ગોંડલના વંચિતો માટે લાગણી રાખનાર સૌ સ્નેહીજનો ખાસ ઉપસ્થિત રહ્યા. આપ સૌનો ઘણો આભાર. 

સરકારે કિંમતી જમીન ને મકાન બાંધવા સહાય આપી.. પણ મજબૂત ઘર માટે જરૃરી વધારે ઘનરાશી VSSM સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્નેહીજનો થકી મળી રહી છે. મદદ કરનાર આપ સૌનો ઘણો આભાર. નામાવલી લાંબી છે માટે નામ નથી લખતી પણ તમે સૌ આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરી રહ્યા છો ને અન્યોને મદદ માટે પ્રોત્સાહીત કરી રહ્યા છો એનો રાજીપો છે.. 

આપ સૌના સક્રિય સહયોગથી ટૂંક સમયમાં વગડામાંથી વહાલપની વસાહત નિર્માણ પામશે...

હાલ આ પરિવારો જે સ્થિતિમાં રહે છે તેના ફોટા પણ સમજવા ખાતર...
