"You cannot have our tea... right ? Chakuma from Kolda village of Amreli District had asked such a direct question to me. She has no one to support her so we send her our ration kit every month and we take care of her. Her food problem was solved but still she was not happy. Her house was in a dilapidated state and in the monsoon it leaks from everywhere.  Chakuma remains busy wiping the wet floor. With the help of our Alimbhai Adatyaa and others we built her house. Alimbhai is a noble soul and I can write a special article on him.

I had promised Chakuma that I would come to her home & have tea which I did when I went to see her new home. When I had seen her for the first time she looked dejected but now in her new home , her face had become brighter. Her house was filled with neighbours.

What better than to be instrumental in bringing happiness in someone's life. It is with the support of several kind hearted people that we are able to bring happiness in lives of thousands of dependent old people like Chakuma.

I thank all from the bottom of my heart and wish & pray that we are able to eliminate misery from the lives of all.

ચકુમાની ચા અને ચકુમાનું ઘર

અમારો ચા તમને નો ખપે ને? આવો વેધક સવાલ અમરેલીના કોલડાગામના ચકુમાએ થોડા મહિના પહેલા પુછેલો. એ નિરાધાર અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે એમનું ધ્યાન રાખીયે. ખાવા પીવામાં શાંતી થઈ ગઈ પણ એક વાતે એ હજુ દુઃખી હતા. એમનું ઘર જર્જરીત. ચોમાસામાં આખા ઘરમાં દંદુડા પડે. વરસતા વરસાદમાં ચકુમા ઘરમાંથી પાણી ઉલેચ્યા કરે. અમારા અલીમભાઈ અદાતિયા અને અન્ય સ્વજનોની મદદથી અમે એમનું ઘર બાંધ્યું. એમની લાગણી માટે આભારી છું. અલીમભાઈ તો ખરેખર ઓલિયા માણસ.એમના વિષે તો જુદુ લખી શકાય.

ખેર એ વખતે ચકુમાને ચા પીવાનો વાયદો કર્યો હતો તે ઘર જોવા ગઈ ત્યારે ચા પણ પીધી. પહેલીવાર મળી ત્યારે એ ખુબ હતાશ જણાયેલા. પણ ઘર થયા પછી મળી ત્યારે એમના ચહેરા પર નૂર હતું. પડોશીઓથી એમનું ઘર ભરેલું હતું..

કોઈના ચહેરા પર આનંદ લાવવામાં નિમિત્ત બની શકાય એનાથી મોટુ સુખ શું હોઈ શકે? અનેક સ્વજનો મદદ કરે એના કારણે ચકુમા જેવા હજારો લોકોના જીવનમાં સુખ લાવી શકીએ છીએ...

સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતાભાવ વ્યક્ત કરુ છું ને કુદરતને સૌના દુઃખ હરવા પ્રાર્થના...

I always talk about having a Ration Card but it is only when I meet families like Keshabhai that I realise how important the Ration Card is.

Keshabhai stays in a village Thur of Banaskantha with 3 children and a wife  in a dilapidated house. Our associate Paresh's house is nearby. Paresh sent me a video of Keshabhai's house on WhatsApp. On seeing the video it was difficult to call it a house.

There were walls and there was a roof but from many places inside the house one can see the sky. At one place the hole in the roof was so big that even monkeys would enter through it. Often the monkeys would pick the food and then Keshabhai had to stay hungry.

Paresh wrote to me that it would be nice if we can make a house for them. The feelings of  Paresh was so strong that we decided to repair Keshabhai's house.  Coincidentally I had to go to Thur during that time and I met Keshabhai. His 14 year old son was standing before me and I asked him what was he studying ? Keshabhai replied that he studied till 8th and now he has left the school. On asking why, Keshabhai replied it was because of lack of money. One gets primary education free but afterwards one has to spend some money towards fees etc. which they did not have. The only option was to leave the school. 

In monsoon the leakages and in Winter the cold makes it impossible to stay in the home. In the house they have two cots on which 5 persons sleep. From the big hole in the roof, the rain falls inside the house and flows out. Just that the roof does not fall, there was one pole kept as a support right in the middle of the house. 

Paresh could not hold back tears and cried while showing the house. He said that he does not have enough money to help Keshabhai repair his house.  It is because of such associates like Paresh that we are able to reach the needy people. 

We took a promise from Keshabhai that he will send his son to our hostel and in return we promised that we will build a house for him. 

Keshabhai agreed to this. Due to his illness he is unable to work much but he wants to secure the future of his son and he was happy if the future of his son improves by going to the hostel. 

He agreed to send his two small daughters to the hostel when they grow up. As soon as I left the village Thur, I received a call from Shri Alimbhai staying in Africa. He asked if any help is required and I immediately suggested the case of Keshabhai. Alimbhai agreed and within one & half months the house of Keshabhai was repaired.

Keshabhai was happy when I went to see the house. He said he was not confident of whether his house will be repaired or not. His wife also did not believe that it will happen. However when his neighbor Paresh told that the house will be done that he was surprised. He believed that God sent me to him. Keshabhai's face exuded happiness. Even the neighbors were happy and came to thank us.

We were only the intermediary. We got the credit but many thanks to our Alimbhai Adaatiyaa. . Many well-wishers like Alimbhai continuously help us and we have been able to construct 1700 houses so far for such needy families. 

We are happy and hope that many such big hearted donors will come forward so that we can construct many more homes.

'ચોમાસુ બેહન્ અમન્ બીક લાગવો મોડ.. હરખુ ઘર નઈક એકય.. મારી ઘરવાળી મજૂરી કર પણ ઓય ગોમડામો બારે મહિના મજૂરી ના મલ્. બે તૈઈણ મહિના કોમ મલ ઈમ ભેગુ કરી લેવાનું. બાકી રેશન મલ્ ઈના ઉપર હેડ!'

રેશનકાર્ડની અગત્યતતા નાના માણસોને કેટલી એની વાત અમે હંમેશાં કરીએ પણ કેશાભાઈ જેવા પરિવારોને મળુ ત્યારે એનું મૂલ્ય વધુ સમજાય. 

બનાસકાંઠાના થૂરમાં કેશાભાઈ રહે. ત્રણ બાળકો અને પત્ની સાથે જર્જરીત ઘરમાં એ રહે. અમારા કાર્યકર પરેશની બાજુમાં એમનું ઘર. એક દિવસ પરેશે મને વોટસઅપ પર વિડીયો મોકલ્યો. વિડીયો હતો કેશાભાઈના ઘરનો. ઘર કહેવું કે કેમ એ પ્રશ્ન વિડીયો જોઈને થાય.

ઘરને દિવાલો ખરી ને છત પર નળિયાય ખરા પણ છતમાંથી આકાશ દેખાય.. એક જગ્યાએ તો ચોખ્ખુ આકાશ દેખાય એવડુ  મોટુ બાકોરુ. એમાંથી વાંદરાય ઘરમાં આવજા કરે. ક્યારેક રાંધેલો રોટલો ઘરમાં આવીને લઈ જાય. ને એવા ટાણે કેશાભાઈને ભૂખ્યા રહેવાનો વારો આવે.

પરેશે લખેલું આપણે આમનું ઘર કરી શકીએ તો સારુ..

અમારા કાર્યકરો સંવેદનશીલ. એમની લાગણી હોય ત્યારે તો આ કાર્ય કરવાનું જ હોય. યોગાનુંયોગ એ વખતે થૂર જવાનું થયું ને કેશાભાઈને મળવાનું થયું.

એમનો 14 વર્ષનો દિકરો અમારી સામે ઊભેલો. મે પુછ્યું, 'શું ભણે?'

કેશાભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'આઠ ભણાયો. આ સાલથી ઉઠાડી મેલ્યો.'

'કેમ?'

'પૈસાની સગવડ ચોથી કરવાની?'

પ્રાથમિક શિક્ષણ મફત મળે પણ પછી પૈસા ખર્ચવા પડે. જે આ પરિવાર પાસે નહીં એટલે દિકરાને નિશાળમાંથી ઉઠાડી દીધેલો.

ચોમાસામાં તો ઘરમાં... એવા પ્રશ્નના જવાબમાં કેશાભાઈએ કહ્યું, 'બેન દંદુડા પડઅ.. અને શિયાળામો ટાઢ કે મારુ કોમ..'

ઘરમાં બે ખાટલા એ બે ખાટલામાં પાંચ જણા ભર ચોમાસે વરસતા વરસાદમાં સુવે.. બાકી છતમાં જે બાજુ મોટુ બાકોરુ ત્યાંથી પાણી પડે ને ઘરમાં થઈને એ બહાર જાય..

છત પડી ન જાય એ માટે ઘરની વચમાં એક ટેકણિયું પણ મુકેલું. 

પરેશ ઘર બતાવતા બતાવતા રડી પડ્યો. એણે કહ્યું, 'બેન મારી પાસે એટલા પૈસા નથી પણ આમનું ઘર થાય....' એ ભાવુક થઈ ગયો.. આવા લાગણીવાળા કાર્યકરો VSSM પાસે છે માટે જ સાચા અને જરૃરિયાતવાળા માણસો સુધી પહોંચી શકીએ.

કેશાભાઈ પાસે એમના દિકરાને ઉઘડી નીશાળે અમારી હોસ્ટેલમાં ભણવા મુકવાનું વચન માગ્યું. તમે વચન આપે તો ઘર બાંધી આપીશુંનું પણ કહ્યું.

એમણે કહ્યું, 'મુ તો રાજીજ સું. મારાથી કોમ નઈ થતું, બિમારી ના લીધે ખુબ હેરોન થવું. પણ મારા સોકરાનું ભવિસ્ય તમે બનાવો તો મુ તો રોજી. લઈ જજો તમ તમાર...'

નાની બે દીકરીઓને પણ મોટી થતા હોસ્ટેલમાં મુકશેની વાત થઈ. એ પછી ત્યાંથી નીકળી. થૂરમાંથી બહાર નીકળું ત્યાં આફ્રિકામાં રહેતા અમારા અલીમભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો ને,  બેન ક્યાં મદદ કરવાની છે એમ પુછ્યું ને મે કેશાભાઈની વાત કરી..

એમણે કહ્યું ઘર કરી નાખો..

ને લગભગ દોઢ મહિનામાં અમે કેશાભાઈનું ઘર કરી નાખ્યું.

ઘર થયા પછી ઘર જોવા ગઈ તો કેશાભાઈ રાજી. એમણે કહ્યું. 'તમે આઈન જ્યાં પણ મન ખાતરી નતી ક આ થાય. તમે જ્યા પસી મારી ઘરવાળી ખેતરેથી આઈ મીએ ઈન કીધુ તો એય મોનતી નતી. પણ પરા(પરેશે)એ આઈન કીધુ ક ઘર કરવાનું હ્. તાણ નવઈ લાગી.. ભગવોને તમન મેલ્યા...'

કેશાભાઈના ચહેરા પર આનંદ હતો... પડોશીઓ પણ આભાર માનવા આવ્યા..

આમ જુઓ તો અમે નિમિત્ત.. ઘર બાંધનાર કોણ ને જશ કોને મળે? પ્રિય અલીમભાઈ અદાતિયાનો ઘણો આભાર.. 

અલીમભાઈ જેવા ઘણા સ્વજનો સતત મદદ કરે માટે આવા 1700 થી વધારે પરિવારોના ઘર અમે બાંધી શક્યા...

બસ રાજીપો.. ને વધુ લોકો સાથે આવશે તો આવા અનેક પરિવારોના ઘર બાંધી શકીશું..

 Valuma, please admit your children to our hostel for studies. If they study, their life will change for the better. Today you are there to take care of them. What will happen when you are not there?

Before I could complete what I wanted to say, Valuma laughed & replied " you will be there for them.. isn't it ? The  question evoked laughter though we were discussing a serious topic of children's education. Valuma said it was very tough bringing up her grandchildren as both her sons died at a young age. " I collect cow dung. For two months I toil which fills up one tractor trolley for which I get Rs 1,000/-."

How do you survive for 2 months on Rs 1,000 ? I asked. "We cannot," she replied. "Many days we just drink water to quench our hunger. If I go begging, I get some flour, grains sometimes. I fast on most days and pray to God. God has sent you to help me."  Saying this, Valuma laughed again." My days improved after you came to my home"

When I hear this, I question whether we are really entitled to the credit we get. We at VSSM do help such families which are in dire need and try to alleviate their misery. I do understand that we do act as a bridge to reach these people.

Valuma's house is in a dilapidated condition. No convenience of bathroom or toilet . This causes a lot of suffering. She has a tumor in her throat. Doctor suggested that she get operated. She refused to get operated on as she fears that if something untoward happens during the operation who will take care of her grandchildren.

To construct Valuma's home, Namrataben Rathod & Punambahen helped. Many thanks to them. In addition we also ensure that Valuma receives a food ration kit every month. We also applied for a grant from the government under a scheme where Rs 6,000 per month is given to children without parents. Valuma started receiving this grant too. For this we are thankful to the officers of the Zilla Parishad.

Valuma says that her life has changed for the better  and she now goes to Amreli once in a month to withdraw cash and also to purchase food items needed. She feels at peace now after having spent her entire life in turmoil.

When we had met Valuma some months back, one could see tremendous stress on her face. Now her toothless face is constantly laughing. With great pleasure the neighbours remained present during the house warming ceremony of Valuma's home. They all promised to take care of Valuma's family. We are thankful to all. 

It was through Shri Kanubhai that we could reach Valuma. Many thanks to him.

Our colleague Rameshbhai has become like a Son to Valuma & he takes great care of her.

બાળકોને ભણવા અમારી હોસ્ટેલમાં મુકો વલુમા. ભણશે તો જીંદગી બદલાઈ જશે. તમે તો આજે છો કાલે નહીં હોવ તો પછી એમનું કોણ?'

મારુ બોલવાનું હજુ પત્યું નહોતું ત્યાં વચમાં જ જરા હસીને વલુમાએ જવાબ આપતા કહ્યું, 'તમે સો ને?'

સાંભળીને બાળકોને ભણાવવાના ગંભીર મુદ્દા પર ચર્ચા કરતા હતા તેની જગ્યાએ હસવું આવી ગયું. વલુમા કહે, 'બહુ વીપદા પડી. મારા બે સોકરા પાસા થ્યા. આ ત્રણ પાઠડાને (પૌત્ર-પૌત્રી) આ ઉંમરે મોટા કરવા હેલી વાત સે? હું છાણ ભેગુ કરવાનું કરુ. બે મહિનો મથુ તાર જતા એક ટોલી(ટ્રેક્ટરની ટ્રોલી) ભરાય એટલું છાણ ભગુ થાય. એ વેચુ એના હજાર રૃપિયા આવે!'

'તે હજારમાં બે મહિના હાલે?'

'હું હાલે? ઘણી વખત ખાલી પાણી પીને દિ કાઢવા પડે. કોઈના ઘરે જઈને ઊભી રહુ તો લોકો લોટ, દાણા આપે. પણ હાસુ કવ થાઈ ગઈ'તી. નિર્જળા ઉપવાસ કરીને ભગવાન પાહે મદદ માંગેલી. તે તમને મોકલ્યા..' એમ કહી વલુમા પાછા હસ્યા. 

એ કહે, 'તમે મારા ઘેર આયવા પસી મા દી ફર્યા.'

આવું સાંભળુ ત્યારે આ જશના અધિકારી અમે ખરા? એ સવાલ થાય. તકલીફમાં હોય તેવા પરિવારોને vssm સાથે સંકળાયેલા સ્વજનો મદદ કરે અને એમની પીડા દુર થાય. અમે માધ્યમ. નિમિત્ત એ વાત બરાબર સમજીએ.

વલુમાનું ઘર જર્જરીત. ટોયલેટ, બાથરૃમની સુવિધા નહીં એટલે સખત તકલીફ પડે. ગળામાં એમને ગાંઠ. ડોક્ટરે ઓપરેશન માટે કહ્યું પણ વલુમા કહે, 'ઓપરેશનમાં મને કાંક થાય તો મારા પાઠડાઓનું હું થાય..' એટલે વલુમા ઓપરેશન ન કરાવે. 

વલુમાનું ઘર બાંઘવાનું હતું એ માટે નમ્રતાબેન રાઠોડ અને પૂનબહેને મદદ કરી.  એમનો ઘણો આભાર. એ સિવાય અમે દર મહિને આપ સૌ સ્વજનોની મદદથી રાશન આપીયે. બાળકોના માતા પિતા નહીં. એમને પાલક માતા પિતા યોજનાની મદદ મળે તે માટે સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરી ને માસીક 6000 ની મદદ સરકાર પાસેથી વલુમાને મળવા માંડી. આ મદદ માટે જિલ્લા વિકાસ અધિકારી શ્રીનો ઘણો આભાર. 

વલુમા કહે એમ 'સુખનો સુરજ હવે ઊગ્યો. હું હવે મહિને એક વાર અમરેલી જાવું, પૈસા ઉપાડું ને જે ખાવું પીવું હોય એ લઈને આવું. આખી જીંદગી દુઃખ વેઠ્યું પણ હવે શાંતી.'

વલુમાને થોડા મહિના પહેલાં મળ્યા ત્યારે એમના મોંઢા પર સખત વિસાદ હતો. જ્યારે આ બધુ થયા પછી એમનું બોખલું મોઢું સતત હસ્યા કરતું હતું..

પડોશીઓ પણ વલુમાના નવા ઘરમાં પ્રવેશ વખતે એકદમ હરખ સાથે હાજર રહ્યા અને સૌએ વલુમાના પરિવારનું ધ્યાન રાખવાનું પણ વચન આપ્યું. સૌનો આભાર.. 

વલુમાની વાત અમારા સુધી કનુભાઈએ પહોંચાડી એમનો ઘણો આભાર..

જ્યારે અમારા કાર્યકર રમેશભાઈ તો હવે વલુમાના દિકરા જેવા. એ વલુમાનું ઘણું ધ્યાન રાખે..

Do you remember Shambhu ?

He stays in Gutal Village in Kheda District. He lost his parents when he was still an infant.

Grandparents brought him up. Unfortunately he had a protein deficiency syndrome so his grandfather had to take him to the Civil Hospital every month.

Grandfather says that because of Shambhu's illness he could not construct a proper house. Shambhu studies in Gutal High School.  His absenteeism in the school being quite high, it came to the notice of teacher Shri Parasbhai Dave. Shambhu soon became one of the favourite students of Parasbhai. Through Parasbhai we came to know about Shambhu. In order to support the family, we decided to give a ration kit to them. On seeing the condition of the house , we thought of getting his house done and we got the help from Nilimaben Odedara, Viralbhai Shah, Vikrambhai Shah & others.

After getting his house done we went to Shabhu's house. Grandpa said " we had never dreamt that we would have a proper house of our own. We had snakes  in the house. But because now that we have a concrete home, the snakes have also gone away"

When we asked him are you not afraid to stay with snakes in the house, the grandpa said that " we both stay within our limits. We do our work and the snake does his. Now that there are not many shrubs left in the farm, where will the poor thing go?". What emotions. Perfect ambassadors of Indian culture. He further said that " they will not come in such a concrete house. We have therefore put a tap. Snakes would slowly come "

We drank tea that he made on his stove. His financial condition was poor. Yet he performed betelnut puja in the house and provided lunch to several students before entering the house. He wanted a big foyer in the house which we constructed. The level of water underneath the house is quite high so the construction of the house was delayed. Yet because of dampness the color on the walls did not come out properly. Grandpa said that if the house is coloured in April, the colour would last longer. So will get the colour done later.

We give ration to this family every month. Since grandpa is not able to work much he wanted to start a cycle repair shop in which also VSSM helped. The family now is contented. 

Shambhu does not like to study much. When he grows older he also wants to work in the garage. VSSM will also help him in future.

VSSM family is heartily thankful to all who helped in this cause and special thanks to Parasbhai for being instrumental in identifying Shambhu.

ખેડાના ગુતાલમાં એ રહે. બે મહિનાનો હતો ને પિતા આ દુનિયા છોડી ગયા ને થોડા મહિનામાં મા ગઈ.

દાદા દાદી એને ઉછેરે. પણ નાનપણથી એના શરીરમાં પ્રોટીન ઘટે એટલે દાદા દર મહિને એને સિવીલમાં લઈને દોડે. 

શંભુની બિમારીને લીધે હું પાક્કુ ઘર ન કરી શક્યો. એવું દાદા કહે. ગુતાલની હાઈસ્કૂલમાં શંભુ ભણે. નિશાળમાં સતત ગેરહાજર શંભુ પર શિક્ષક પારસભાઈ દવેનું ધ્યાન પડે ને એ પછી તો શંભુ એમનો ગમતીલો બની ગયો. એમના થકી  અમે શંભુના પરિચયમાં આવ્યા. પરિવારને ટેકો રહે માટે રાશન આપવાનું વિચાર્યું પણ ઘરની સ્થિતિ જોઈને થયું ઘર પણ કરીએ અને મદદમાં આવ્યા. નિલીમબેન ઓડેદરા, વિરલભાઈ શાહ, વિક્રમભાઈ શાહ વગેરે સ્વજનો અને ઘર થઈ ગયું.

ઘર થયા પછી શંભુના ઘરે ગઈ ત્યારે દાદાએ કહ્યું, 'જિંદગીમાં વિચાર્યું નહોતું કે ઘર થાય. અમારા ઘરમાં નાગ- નાગણ પર રહે. એ બિચારાનું ઘર આ પાક્કુ ઘર થવાથી જતું રહ્યું..'

આ સાંભળીને સાપ સાથે રહો તો બીક ન લાગે એવું પુછાઈ ગયું ને દાદાએ કહ્યું, 'એ એનું કરે અમે અમારુ. અમે બેઉ એકબીજાની મર્યાદા જાળવીએ.. હવે ખેતરોમાં ઝાડીઓ નથી રહી એ બિચારુ જાનવર ક્યાં જાય..'

કેવો ભાવ... આપણી ભારતીય સંસકૃતિના આ ખરા વાહકો..

એમણે કહ્યું, 'આ પાક્કા ઘરમાં તો એ રહેવા આવે નહીં તે આ નળ લાવીને નાખ્યા છે એમાં એ ધીમે ધીમે આવી જશે.. 

એમના ચૂલે ચા બનાવીને પીવડાવી.. આર્થિક સ્થિતિ એકદમ ખરાબ છતાં એક સોપારીનો હવન કરીને નિશાળના કેટલાક છોકરાંઓને જમાડીને એમણે ગૃહપ્રવેશ કર્યો. એમની ઈચ્છા મોટા ઓટલાની હતી તે એ અમે બાંધ્યો.. એમની જમીનમાં પાણીનું લેવલ બહુ ઉપર છે. એટલે ઘર બાંધવાનું પણ અમે છેક હમણાં કર્યું. છતાં ભેજના કારણે ઘરને રંગ બરાબર ન થયો. દાદા કહે, તમે એપ્રિલ કે મે મહિનામાં રંગ કરશો  તો રંગ ટકી જશે પછી વાંધો નહીં... તે એ વખતે ફેર રંગ કરીશું.

આ પરિવારને દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે. દાદાથી કામ થતું નથી એમણે સાયકલ રીપેરનું ગેરેજ શરૃ કરવાની ઈચ્છા રાખી તે એમાં VSSM એ મદદ કરી.. આ પરિવારના જીવને હવે હખ છે.

શંભુને ભણવું બહુ ગમતું નથી એ મોટો થઈને ગેરેજ ચલાવવા ઈચ્છે છે.. ભવિષ્યમાં એમાં પણ મદદ કરીશું...

 " I want a home in this world where I can go without reason"

This is a line by a famous poet Shri Madhav Ramanuj & it expresses the true feeling of owning a home. As such most in the world have  a concrete house but there are many who in spite of having their own home do not feel the joy of going home. That apart, if we talk of the nomadic tribes there dream of having a home has remained unrealised for generations. They just move around. Sometimes with a donkey in their cart or sometimes with luggage on the camels. They say that summer & winter they can manage but it is the rains that causes most trouble to them. 

It is the mission of VSSM to settle such families , to see that they get properly constructed houses. The state government also sympathises with them and helps to get them a permanent address.

The 18 families of Gadaliya community of Lower Mandal in Morbi have been staying for years in a far flung corner of the village in temporary sheds.  Thanks to the village sarpanch and the support of villagers, they could get land allotted in the village.

Thanks to the sympathetic attitude of the Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel & of the Collector, more than 500 families could get plots for construction of a house. The 18 families of Gadaliya community of Nichi Mandal in Morbi  requested us to construct homes with 2 rooms, toilet, bathroom. The Government will give a grant of Rs 1.32 lakhs per house which is not sufficient to build such a house. We contributed Rs 1.43 lakhs for each home and the balance they took a loan from VSSM. For construction we received financial help from Shri Maheshbhai Shroff ( Novex Poly) , Shri Navinbhai Mehta, Smt Krupaben, Shri Mayurbhai Nayak of Maa-Baap Foundation all from Mumbai. We are really grateful to all of them.

These 18 families will be the first generation that will stay in properly constructed houses. Everyone is extremely happy that their home is being constructed. We pray that good things happen to all.

એક એવું ઘર મળે આ વિશ્વમાં જ્યાં કશા કારણ વગર જઈ શકુ - જાણિતા કવી માધવ રામાનુજે લખેલી કવિતાની આ પંક્તિઓ ઘરની સાચી વિભાવના દર્શાવનારી. આમ તો દુનિયામાં મોટાભાગના પાસે પોતાનું પાક્કુ ઘર છે. પણ પાક્કુ ઘર હોવા છતાં જેમને ઘરમાં જવાનો હરખ ન થાય એવાય ઘરો - માણસો આ દુનિયામાં..

ખેર અમે અમારા વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોની વાત કરીએ તો એમની સદીઓ ઘરની ઝંખનામાં જ ગઈ. ગાડાં પર,ક્યાંક ગઘેડાં તો ક્યાંક ઊંટો પર થોડો ઘણો સામાન લઈને બસ ફર્યા કરે. એ લોકો કહે, 'શિયાળો, ઉનાળો તો નિકળી જાય પણ ચોમાસુ તોબા પોકારાવે..'

આવા પરિવારોને ઠરી ઠામ કરવાનું, તેમને પાક્કુ ઘર મળે તે માટે VSSM પ્રયત્ન કરે. રાજ્ય સરકાર પણ લાગણી રાખી આ પરિવારોને સરનામુ અપાવવા મદદ કરે.

મોરબીનું નીચી માંડલ ગાડલિયા સમુદાયના 18 પરિવારો વર્ષોથી ગામના છેવાડે પતરાંની આડોશ કરીને રહે. સરપંચ અને ગામની લાગણીના લીધે આ પરિવારોને ગામમાં પ્લોટ મળવાનું શક્ય બન્યું. 

મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલ તેમજ કલેકટર શ્રીની લાગણી વિચરતીજાતિના પરિવારો માટે ઘણી. એટલે મોરબી જિલ્લામાં વસતા વિચરતી જાતિના 500 થી વધારે પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળ્યા. જેમાંના નીચી માંડલમાં રહેતા 18 ગાડલિયા પરિવારોએ પોતાના બે રૃમ રસોડા, ટોયલેટ બાથરૃમ સાથેના ઘર બાંધવા અમને વિનંતી કરી. સરકારના 1.32 હજાર મળશે એ સિવાય આ પરિવારોએ પોતે પણ પૈસા ઉમેરવા કહ્યું. જો કે પાસે હતા નહીં. અમારી પાસેથી લોન લીધી. એ સિવાય અમે 1.43 લાખની મદદ પ્રત્યેક પરિવારને ઘર બાંધકામ માટે કરીશું. 

ઘર બાંધકામમાં મુંબઈના આદરણીય શ્રી મહેશભાઈ શ્રોફ (નોવેક્ષ પોલી), શ્રી નવીનભાઈ મહેતા, સુશ્રી કૃપાબહેન, શ્રી મયુરભાઈ નાયક(મા-બાપ ફાઉન્ડેશન) ની મદદ મળી.આપ સૌ સ્વજનો પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા વ્યક્ત કરીએ છીએ.

નીચી માંડલના ગાડલિયા પરિવારોની આ પહેલી પેઢી જે પોતાના પાક્કા ઘરમાં રહેવા જશે. સૌને પોતાનું ઘર થઈ રહ્યાનો ઘણો હરખ..

“It is our good fortune that Almighty sent Mittalben to us!”

That was a profound statement Gulabbhai made before Kintubhai Gadhvi on camera. Such statements bring a sense of increasing responsibilities.

To be born and live a life as Dafer is a daunting task. The Dafer are hired to protect farm and village boundaries but always denied residency to the village. Under such circumstances 11 Dafer families living at various places in Surendranagar were allotted plots in Dhrangadhra’s Virendragadh, Gulabbhai is one of them.

“Getting a plot in Dhrangadhra has been the best thing. It is place where we will find work and we shall not obstruct anyone with our presence!”

Honestly, it is not this  community but our perception about them that has been an obstruction, not their presence. We are glad that acceptance has grown than earlier. 

Our heartfelt congratulations to Gulabbhai, Ushmanbhai and others who have received plots, their dream of living in a pucca  house will soon become a reality. 

Our Chief Minister has always shown compassion towards the plight of these communities, we respect his concern for these marginalised.  

Surendranagar District Collector and his team have worked hard to provide plots to homeless in the district. We applaud the path-breaking efforts they have put in.

કેવડી મોટી વાત ગુલાબભાઈએ કીંતુભાઈ ગઢવીના કેમેરા સમક્ષ કહી.  મૂળ તો આ બધુ સાંભળુ ત્યારે જવાબદારી વધ્યાનું લાગે... 

ડફેર તરીકે જન્મવું ને જીવવું ઘણું કપરુ.. સીમરખા તરીકે તો સૌ ગામમાં રાખે પણ કાયમી રહેવાની વાત આવે એટલે નકાર..આવામાં સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં અલગ અલગ જગ્યાએ રહેતા 11 ડફેર પરિવારોને ધ્રાંગધ્રાના વીરેન્દ્રગઢમાં રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળ્યા. જેમાં ગુલાબભાઈને પણ એક પ્લોટ મળ્યો.. 

'ઘ્રાંગધ્રામાં વસવાટ થ્યો એ હારામાં હારુ થ્યું બેન.. આયાં નાનુ મોટુ કામેય જડી જાશે ને કોઈને અમારાથી નડતરેય નહીં થાય..'

આમ જુઓ તો નડતર આ સમુદાયની ક્યાં હતી. સમાજ તરીકે આપણે સૌ આ પરિવારોને સ્વીકારી ન શક્યા એની હતી.. 

ખેર પહેલાં કરતાં થોડો સ્વીકારભાવ વધ્યો છે એનો રાજીપો.. 

ગુલાબભાઈ, ઉષ્માનભાઈ જેમને પણ રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ ફળવાયા તે સૌને અભીનંદન. હવે એમના પાકા ઘરનું સમણું સાકાર થશે.. 

મુખ્યંત્રી શ્રીની લાગણીને પ્રણામ.. તેઓ હંમેશાં આ બધા પરિવારોને ઘર મળે તે માટે સતત ચિંતા કરે. તો સુરેન્દ્રનગર કલેક્ટર શ્રી અને તેમના અધિકારીગણનો આભાર એમણે આ પરિવારો માટે લાગણી રાખી માટે આ કાર્ય થયું.

આ કાર્ય માટે મદદ કરનાર જવેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશન, આદરણીય શ્રી કીરીટભાઈ શાહ (અમેરીકા) ને અન્ય પ્રિયજનોનો આભાર તેમની મદદથી જ અમારો કાર્યકર હર્ષદ દોડાદોડી કરી શક્યો...તેની તબીયના ઘણા પ્રશ્નો વચ્ચે એણે આ કાર્ય પુર્ણ કર્યું.. આપ સૌનો ઘણો આભાર..

"Since last 10 years we had been coming with you to various offices, we had lost hope that we will ever receive residential plots!! But Tohidbhai did not give up, he continues to run from pillar to post to ensure we are allotted plots. It is these efforts that have brought plots to 120 families. Natukaka was sure he would be dead and turned into ghost before we could set our foot on the plots. I remember once we had gone to see an official who eventually did not turned up. Natukaka removed his shoes before an official, we feared that he might get angry and hit the officer!!"  Natukaka actually  showed the soles of the footwear he was wearing and said, "We have climbed these  steps so many times that many a soles have worn off, atleast now give us plots!"

Bhgabhai Vadi shared the above  while showing us the site they have been allotted plots at. 120 families belonging to nomadic communities residing in Mehsana's Visnagar were recently allotted plots to build a house. VSSM will work with the families to level the land and proceed to build a settlement full of love and warmth. A place to call home for life. A place they will not be forced to vacate. 

VSSM's Tohid and various community leaders remained persistent to ensure allotment of plots. Our Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai is compassionate about the welfare of these communities, it has taken years but his orders helped us obtain the plots.

Similar to the applications of Visnagar, there are many pending applications of families living in settlements across Mehsana district. Hopefully they too are approved at the earliest.

We are grateful to the District Collector and officials of Mehsana. And gratitude towards all our well-wishers who helped us continue to strive through these 10 years.

'અમન ખાલા(રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ) મલશે એવો હાચુ કહું તો ભરોષો નતો.. દસ વરહ નેહરી જ્યાં.. તમારી હારે કચેરીઓ ભટકીન. પણ તોહીદભઈ અન તમે કેડો ના મેલ્યો તે આજ અમન 120 પરિવારોં ન ખાલા મલ્યા.. આ નટુકાકા તો કેતા ક પ્લોટ મલ્યા પેલા મરી જઈશ તો ભૂત થવાનો. એક વાર અમે કચેરીમાં તોહીદભઈ ભેગા જ્યાં. અધિકારી ન મળ્યા. ઇમને અધિકારી હોમે જૂત્તુ કાઢ્યું અમન બીક લાગી ચોક મારી બારી... મુ અન તોહીદભઈ ગભરી જ્યાંતા એટલામોં નટુકાકા બોલ્યા સાહેબ જૂતાની ભાતેય દેખાતી નહિ એટલીવાર આ પગથિયાં ચડ્યા હવ તો પ્લોટ આલો..'

ભગાભાઇ વાદીએ પ્લોટ મળ્યા એ જગ્યા બતાવતા આ લાગણી વ્યક્ત કરી..

પરિવારોને સ્થાઈ સરનામું મળ્યું. જગ્યાને સમતળ કરાવવાનું હવે લોકો સાથે રહી કરીશું. પછી બંધાશે વ્હાલપની વસાહત.

જયાંથી કોઈ એમને ખાલી નહિ કરાવે..

અમારો તોહીદ(કાર્યકર) અને જુદા જુદા સમાજના આગેવાનો આ માટે ઘણું દોડ્યા..

મુખ્યમન્ત્રી વિજયભાઈની લાગણી આ પરિવારો માટે ઘણી એટલે એમની સૂચનાથી કાર્ય ભલે વર્ષો થયા પણ પત્યું ખરું ..

મહેસાણા જિલ્લામાં અસ્થાઈ પડાવોમાં રહેતી વિચરતી જાતિઓની રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટની માંગણી કરતી ઘણી અરજીઓ કચેરીમાં વિસનગરની જેમ વર્ષોથી પડતર છે. આશા છે એ બધા પર ઝટ કાર્યવાહી થાય.

“It has been such a long time, we have been struggling to find a place to call home. During that we have witnessed so many officials come and go. The whole efforts has become so tiring now.”

Paniben from Surendranagar’s Dudhrej would tell me every time we would meet.

And she is absolutely write when she outpours this anguish. It was in 2006, almost 150 of us had come together in the premises of collector’s office to appeal of residential plots, we were assured for the allotment but the promise did not turn into reality.

It is life’s ultimate aspiration to have a roof over the head, it is an incomparable joy. For the homeless, it provides  an ability to live without fear of being driven away or their hutments bulldozed by encroachment enforcement officials.  

Our Prime Minister has pledged “Housing for All by 2022”, the state government too has pledged to provide support to bring this to life and many families have started receiving plots. However, in 19 districts of  Gujarat innumerable applications still lay unaddressed yet we are pleased with whatever positive change we witness.

As a result of VSSM’s efforts  and administrative will on the last day as Collector of Surendranagar,  Shri K Rajesh signed orders for allotment of residential plots to 92 families living in various regions of Surendranagar. Shri Rajesh has been a blessing to us as the work he has done is yet to find a match in any other district of Gujarat.

VSSM’s Harshad has been relentless in his pursuit to ensure the families have a roof over their head. And Pamiben’s joy is boundless. Atlast the collector has sanctioned a plot for her…

We are glad for the support our Government and Collector Shri K Rajesh has been. Paniben and 91 other families will now have a decent roof over their heads and a place to call home!!

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના દૂધરેજમાં રહેતા પનીબેન જ્યારે મળે ત્યારે આ વાત કરે.. 

જો કે એમની વાત સાચી હતી 2006માં સુરેન્દ્રનગર કલેક્ટર કચેરીના પ્રાંગણમાં અમે રહેવા પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે રજૂઆત કરવા લગભગ 150 લોકો ભેગા થયેલા. એ વેળા આશ્વાસન મળેલું પણ પછી તો ઘણા ધરમ ધક્કા...મૂળ રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા હોવી એનું સુખ ઘણું મોટુ.. કોઈ આવીને ઝૂંપડું તોડી નાખશે નો ડર ન રહે.. પણ આ અભય મળવું ઘણું અઘરુ હતું..

આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીનો 2022 સુધીમાં દરેક વ્યક્તિને ઘર આપવાનો નિર્ધાર થયો ને એમાં રાજ્ય સરકારનો સહયોગ સાંપડ્યો એટલે ધીમે ધીમે લોકોને પ્લોટ મળવાની શરૃઆત થઈ.. જો કે ગુજરાતના 19 જિલ્લાની ઘણી અરજીઓ કલેક્ટર કચેરીમાં આજેય પડતર છે છતાં શરૃઆત થઈ એનો આનંદ તો લઈ જ શકાય..

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના વિવિધ  વિસ્તારમાં રહેતા 92 પરિવારોને VSSMના પ્રયત્નથી કલેક્ટર કે.રાજેશે તેમની બદલી થઈ તે દિવસે રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટના હુકમ આપ્યા.. તેમનો ખુબ આભાર.. કોઈ જિલ્લામાં નથી થયું એવું સુંદર કાર્ય એમણે ત્યાં કર્યું. અમારા કાર્યકર હર્ષદની આ બધામાં જબરી મહેનત થાક્યા વગર એ કામ કર્યા કરે. તો પનીબહેનને કલેક્ટર હસ્તે  હુકમ મળ્યો એ તો રાજી રાજી...

પનીબેન ને એમના જેવી સ્થિતિમાં રહેતા 92 પરિવારો હવે ઘરવાળા થશે એનો રાજીપો... ને સરકારનો, કે રાજેશનો ખુબ ખુબ આભાર... 

સાથે સરનામાં વિનાનાં માનવીઓને સરનામાં વાળા કરવા માટે થઈ રહેલા આ કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરતા આદરણીય કીરીટભાઈ શાહ(USA) તેમજ જવેલેક્ષ ફાઉન્ડેશનનો આભાર..

Mittal Patel visits kakar settlement

About 90 Vadi families of Kakar had doubts whether their homes would be built?

Theirs’ was a long pending issue. The government assistance they had received was way less than needed and to top it up someone had duped them. We all are aware of the funds needed to build a decent home. The Vadi are daily wage earners, managing funds needed to build a brick and mortar house is a challenge for them. VSSM has stood with Vadi community since the beginning of its journey, it has always voiced the plight of these families. Hence it was natural the families reached out to us to help them accomplish the most important aspiration of their life. Help each of them build a home. We assured them of our support and initiated the construction of their houses.

Our dear Ujamshibhai always takes up the charge and responsibility of constructing the settlements we are required to build for Kakar too, he agreed to take up the charge of construction. And look how beautifully the houses are coming up. We hope to finish them by the first week of July.

We are thankful to Banaskantha Social Welfare officer for releasing the assistance funds on time.

#કાકરના 90 ફુલવાદી પરિવારોને અમારા ઘરે થશે કે નહીં એવી આશંકા હતી.. 

મૂળ સરકારી ગ્રાન્ટ અમુક પરિવારોને ખુબ ઓછી મળેલી ને એમાંય કોઈ વળી એમને છેતરી ગયું. આમ ઘર બાંધવા ખાસા પૈસાની જરૃર પડે.

વાદી પરિવારો છુટક મજૂરી કરે એમની પાસે મોટી મૂડી ક્યાંથી હોવાની? વળી પાછા આ બધા પ્રિયજનો નાની મોટી બાબતોમાંય તમે ન્યાય કરોનું કહીને અમારી સામે ઊભા રહે...

આવા આ સ્વજનોને ઘર અપાવવાનું સુખ તો કેવડું મોટુ.. અમે નક્કી કર્યું ને ઘર બાંધવાની શરૃઆત કરી. 

પ્રિય ઊજમશીભાઈ VSSMદ્વારા કોઈ પણ બાંધકામ હાથમાં લેવામાં આવે તેમાં મદદ કરે તેમણે કાકરના ઘરો બાંધવાનું માથે લીધુ ને જુઓ સરસ વસાહતનું નિર્માણ થઈ રહ્યું છે.

મોટાભાગે જુલાઈના પ્રથમ અઠવાડિયામાં આ કાર્ય પૂર્ણ થઈ જશે..
